Allambie Heights, NSW 2100

I have lrented all over the northern beaches - Narrabeen, Balgowlah Heights, Queenscliff and Fairlight. We couldn't afford a house in the lower northern beaches and did not want to settle for an apartment. We started looking at Manly Vale, North Balgowlah and Allambie Heights. North Balgowlah is more expensive, and while a little closer to the city, you seem to lose that feeling of being close to the beach. Manly Vale and Allambie Heights are in similar price brackets, but Allambie Heights offers more of a family and suburban feel and is tucked away a little better in my view.

When we first bought here I thought it was a nice area but living in a new suburb is always the real test, but right from the get go, I loved it! It is so peaceful and quiet, I feel very safe and it seems to me like more younger couples and young families are starting to move in who will hopefully start spending money on their properties (as we are) and gradually build up the quality of the houses in the area. The walks around Manly Dam are just beautiful. There are also a couple of home-style local restaurants which we enjoy going to and are inexpensive.

We are thrilled with our purchase. It was at an entry point price for a house on the Northern Beaches and bit by bit we are renovating it to improve it...our way. We have a large block, friendly neighbours and space....lots of it!!

However, the potential of this area is this...I work in the city. In the evenings I catch a cab and it takes 20 minutes to get home (i.e. after 7.30pm), believe it!. In the morning, I either catch a bus (and no problem getting a seat), drive in with my husband (30-40min leaving at 7.30am) or grab a lift down to Manly and catch a ferry (15 min on fast ferry). Allambie Heights is a 5 minute drive to Manly. It has good quality grocery shopping less than 5 minutes away at Balgowlah Stockland and Warringah Mall for other shopping. You have the Brookvale industrial area close by if you are doing renovations - and if you want something else, you are 20 minutes drive to Chatswood. And of course, you have all the beautiful suburbs up the Northern Beaches all the way to Palm Beach for surf. golf, walks, cafes, restaurants and whatever else you need. A real winner in my books.

If you like Northern Beaches then Allambie Heights is up your alley. More space, but lacks to vibe of suburbs like North Manly and Balgowlah. Although those areas are more expensive. Still it is safe. If you work in the city, hope you like buses.

Easy walk to shops, schools, child care, dental; bike ride to pool,sports grounds. express bus (40 minutes) to the city, local buses to manly, warringah mall and chatswood. short bus or drive to the beach.

The amenities and friendly family atmosphere Allambie Heights, has made the suburb sought after for young families and for older people many who have lived in the same house in excess of 60 years. I have lived in Allambie Heights for the past 19 years with my wife Sandra and we have no intentions of moving we just love it. We have made many friends and we enjoy the convenience of the local shopping centre which is the hub of Allambie Heights.

Located a short drive away from the coastline and 35mins to the CBD. Allambie Heights is an excellent spot to bring up a family, downsize or even invest in. With its own shopping facilities located towards the higher end of Allambie Road, this suburb has everything a resident could need. Some of its fantastic attributes are its shops, schools, parks, proximity to the virgin gym & aquatic centre and much, much more! Being a local real estate agents in the area, we have very much enjoyed selling homes in the area and regard Allambie Heights & its community very highly indeed..

Allambie Heights has one of the best communities we found whilst searching around the Northern Beaches. We initially were looking at North Manly (very flat and too grid like) and Balgowlah (more cost, less land, no views and smaller blocks) and "settled" on a larger block, quieter streets and bigger house (with views as a bonus).

Just a quick drive through the quiet streets (or even walking or cycling) will testify to what a safe, quiet and friendly neighbourhood there is.

The shops there I seem to use daily: IGA, cafe's, newsagency, bakers, pizza, bbq chicken, thai, indian, bottle shop...and more....and if you can buy a house close to all of this, seriously you dont leave on the weekends.The buses are just there, and if you leave to drive to the CBD, leaving after 8.30 is a breeze.

Most streets have views of Dee Why, Manly or North head (and all sometimes) and seriously you are minutes from the beach, transport is awesome and if you need more shops, the mall is just down th

Allambie/Allambie Heights is arguably one of Sydney's most liveable suburbs.
The real estate is significantly more affordable than nearby suburbs such as Balgowlah Heights and Seaforth and you get a lot more 'bang for your buck' when buying in this area.
You are 5 or 10 minutes drive from several beaches (e.g. Manly/North Steyne/Queenscliff; Freshwater; and Curl Curl). The delightful Manly Dam and surrounding recreational reserve is very close.
The suburb is elevated, well established and blessed with numerous parks, reserves and an abundance of trees. The homes in the area are generally on large blocks of land (over 650 sq metres) and many of them have beautiful district and/or ocean views.
Public transport to the city (and North Sydney and Chatswood) is very good, with a more than adequate supply of buses all hours of the day and well into the night. The Manly ferry is also not far away.
The local shopping strip is excellent with an IGA, Bakers Delight, newsagent, butcher, pharmacy, gift shop and several nice cafes and restaurants. Warringah Mall is also just down the road.
It is a lovely, quiet location and a great suburb for young families.

I didn't realise how central Allambie was until I moved here.

We originally bought our house as an investment until the GFC would see us move from our Mosman lifestyle to our investment home in Allambie Heights.

After the initial shock...I love living here. I travel a lot with work. It only takes me 35-40 min to the airport and the same in the traffic home. I am in the city in 30 min by bus from our front door with the option of using the Private or Public buses; 35 min to North Ryde in the car; 5 min down the road to South Curl Curl beach for coffee, dog walks or sun baking/swimming; or, Manly for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks or retail therapy.

Properties up here are half the price of those in the lower nth shore. Find the right one and not only will you get uninterrupted views of ocean but 1/3+ more land than if you bought lower nth shore for the same price.

The local IGA has been renovated, there are coffee shops, butcher, florist, green grocer, restaurants. The Manly Dam reserve is across the road; suitable for bike rides, walks and walking the dogs, picnicking, waterskiing, swimming etc.

My only complaint is Warringah council. Otherwise I highly recommend this area.

Allambie Heights is a suburb in the Northern Beaches region of Sydney situated 17 kilometres north east of the CBD in the local government area of Warringah Council. It has a population of about 6,600, 25% of whom are under 18 and 24% of whom are over 60.

It is bordered on the west by the Manly Warringah War Memorial Park which covers an area of 375 hectares. This park has a number of species of flora and fauna and has picnic areas, tennis courts, a sports field and an aquatic centre. The area however, is prone to bushfires which regularly destroy bushland which does fortunately regenerate fairly quickly.

The average price of houses in Allambie Heights is $800,000. There are a number of retirement villages in the suburb. There is also a small shopping centre.

There is one primary school – Allambie Height Public School. Older children need to travel to neighbouring suburbs to go to high school.

Since 1957 Allambie Heights has been home to the Spastic Centre which has done wonderful work with those suffering from cerebral palsy. Its administration building was burnt down in 2007 and is currently being rebuilt. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in the fire.
