Reviews of Allendale Road, Croydon

"Visually interesting & pleasant ..."

Allendale Road runs parallel to Dorset Road from Hull Road in the south (top) to Lincoln Road in the north (bottom). Containing a mixture of weatherboard and brick homes and a few re-done with cladding, a few with rendered exterior. Mixture of cement tile and metal roofing, with the occasional chimney on the older homes. Upper extensions on two homes, and two full double-storey. Fencing varies from tall timber planking through range of pickets, occasional metal or plant-covered wire, to hedging or no fence at all. Footpaths on both sides of the road, and two homes near the top with multiple/circular driveways. Council tree planting along nature strips. Visually interesting and pleasant, with predominent colour cream or ivory.

"Suburbia but with access to nature"

Parking is fine, although trying to turn Right onto Hull Road is nearly impossible. Luckily Moore Avenue and Lindisfarne offer shortcuts if you are heading toward Croydon. There is a bus stop at either end of the street (Telebus) which takes you to either Mooroolbark or Croydon stations within about 10 minutes. However that bus only goes once an hour. There is a more regular route on Hewish Road, at the bottom end of Allendale Road, and another on Dorset Road (parallel to Allendale). So 3 bus routes within 2 blocks. Allendale Road is also only 5 minutes from either Croydon or Mooroolbark stations, and is about 15 minutes to Box Hill on the train.

The 'high' side of the street has great views to the Dandenong Ranges. There are also several little parks around that you probably wouldn't even realise are there (Look in the Melways) including one which is several acres in size. There is also a creche/childcare centre 2 blocks from Allendale Road, and Ruskin Park primary only a 10 minute walk away.

Allendale Road is technically closer to Mooroolbark than Croydon, which is quite convenient as the shops at Mooroolbark are less busy and have better parking. Mooroolbark also has a greater variety of fast food / restaurant options. Allendale Road is also only 5 minutes from the shops at Kilsyth (go to the top of Allendale, then down Ruskin Ave or the next one to take a shortcut) and ten minutes to the shopping complex at Chirnside Park. If you are a fan of op-shops you will be pleased to know that Croydon has 4 within a block of the main street. Then there's the Croydon Market, which is open every Sunday and Monday.

Within 5 minutes of Allendale Road are a cinema, 24 hour supermarket, bottle shops, pubs, bistro, op-shops, fast food, gyms, aquatic centre, fresh food market, several organic stores, several BookCrossing Zones (OBCZ), 4 independent schools including a Steiner school, plus the usual public and private schools. Oh and a Swinburne Uni/TAFE campus.

Croydon used to be on the fringe of suburbia. Suburbia has since sprawled outward, but Croydon is still near the edge, which means for a 20 minute drive you can be away from it all.
Within 15 minutes from Croydon, you can access: Ringwood / Eastland, Bayswater, Heathmont, Boronia, Warrandyte (state forest), Wonga Park, Kilsyth, Mount Evelyn, Montrose, Lilydale, The Basin. The Yarra River can also be accessed from several points within 15 minutes of Allendale Road - great for summer :)
