I've not heard any complaints from the friends and families that I know who live there in terms of quality of life. It's in the foothills, has that sense of closeness to the environment that many seek and good options for parks and recreation (Linear Park and Black Hill especially) and transport via buses is too bad (the recent headaches aren't helping). However, it does have some downfalls. Some parents choose to send their kids to Public Schools outside of the area (ie Stradbroke, East Torrens, Magill) - I've never asked why, it may be preference, it may be they don't like the local schools. Athelstone has problems with internet and TV - ADSL only and the distance from the exchange can be a nightmare problem for speeds and availability. TV has line of sight problems. Traffic can be speedy on the main roads. In places like Fox Hill Estate, the risk from bushfire is real and should not be ignored. The local siren for bushfires was recently replaced. Flooding from Linear Park can and will happen.
