Many professionals live in this area, including professional unprofessionals who encroach on people attempting a leisurely walk. I expect to be able to safely walk through a suburb without being honked at, yelled at or whistled at. For women, take someone with you (a male if possible) when you're walking anywhere through Wollongong.

The other issue are some fermented elderly retirees who form incontinence pad social gangs to oppress newcomers. They can spread all sorts of false rumours.

Very very nice people rented for a short time would move back any day.

People are not good with strangers nor new comers. A bit too rude.

Only lived here 7 years from Sydney and love it. Balgownie has a great small community with everything you need in the cute villiage of shops. Great views of the escarpment, quiet, low traffic and super friendly people. Even a family friendly pub and club.

I find Balgownie a very nice place to live, And think it is one of the safer places to live in Wollongong. Balgownie village covers all your basic needs well and the restaurants are very good.
