I am 3.5 km from the exchange on Morala Ave, Runaway Bay. ADSL 2+ gets me 7 Mb/s with Optus. My neighbour gets 30 Mb/s with Telstra cable.

Thanks, that's about what I was expecting. I would like to work from home, and my business involves video, which can be quite heavy on internet bandwidth. Currently I get by with 100Mb/s but some providers here in Singapore are offering 1Gb/s That's about 33 times faster than your fast neighbour. I wonder if there are any other options, Satellite ?

Update, now on 2Gb/s. *In Singapore. That is 2000 Mb/s for those who haven't seen Gb/s. Australia should really think about the future and make better internet infrastructure.
