Reviews of Burwood Road, Hawthorn

"Simply putting it as a lovable place to love & a liveable place to live"

I love this part of Melbourne as I lived in this area for more than 2 years & now that I am away from this place somewhere in World I am really missing this place out from heart. I felt a real warmth in this suburb. This place gave me all that I have been missing since my birth. Be it nice weather, location worth watching, drive lanes to drive my first car ever, my first job, my first pay, my first bicycle to drive at back, and a lot of things cant be described. Friends time is short, will be back with lot more. Thanks for reading a timepass review.

"Well managed and sophisticated"

Good and easy access to closeby Glenferrie road, Hawthorn Library, and further leading to schools, parks and recreational Centres.Close by Hawthorn Railway Line. Close to Yarra River on the south. Close by park on Morang road provides a good mental relief
Area is built up and has formal residential development. Mostly constructed with timber this road now has many commercial building with great urban looks plus two to three storey multi dwelling modern development mainly rented out to young professionals and/or students. Area has moderate slope

The land pattern is varied and so is the size and shape of the land allotments. Public transport is a good choice. Shops are available close by. Streets are local and traffic is limited
Varied widths with Glen Avon road and Morang place having no footpaths.Plantings exist on both side but not in quantity and as such you can see greenery for just name sake.
A remarkable commercial centre on Burwood road is Going Going Green which sells all the gardening stuff and also sells sculpture of Zoo animals. This along with the recently started Bunnings warehouse on the road have added to the ease of access to fulfill gardening needs of local residents.

Burwood Rd, Hawthorn from the curve at Camberwell Rd to the Yarra is quite varied. Sadly it's becoming a major thoroughfare so traffic is getting quite bad any day of the week. Starting at Camberwell Rd end, you have a mix of shops (furniture, kitchen, Mitre 10, wedding dresses and car yard). Heading west and crossing Auburn Rd, more mixed small business' and a few restaurants that are local institutions and then you hit smaller residents on the south side that are facing multi story developments on the north. Sadly these are high density student accommodation and these buildings along with Swinburne are changing the landscape into a bit of a tunnel.
Crossing Glenferrie, it changes again to office buildings, furniture shops, Bunnings (!) and more mix of shops and apartment blocks. And finally crossing Power St, West Hawthorn shops is a nice local shopping precinct with a terrific IGA and the best wine bar for miles - Gibsons. And then small businesses and back into reasonable density housing opposite St James Park and West Hawthorn Primary.
