Reviews of Cadell Street, Seaview Downs

"Great developing area"

Seaview Downs is a bit like a sports team that is in a rebuilding phase. Older, post war settlers are moving out and a new breed of young professional is moving in. This means there is a real optimism and spirit to the suburb, lots of people are renovating the old homes bringing them up to modern standards, or alternatively, knocking them down and re-building up market one and two storey homes. The latter means that you will have a great view toward the sea and over the Adelaide plains.

Cadell street is about mid way up 'the hill'. It is in the process of being greened, with new leafy trees recently planted. There are 2 large parks on or very close to the street, one of these is having a major update of play equipment in 2010/2011.

The location mid way up the hill means it is an easy walk to Foodlands in either Seacliff Park or Darlington that are open late. There are also corner shops in Seaview Downs that include a Deli, takeaway foods, video store, hair dresser and laundromat.

Cadell street reflects the overall suburb - re-building. The blocks are large (most above 700 sqm) and there is lots of renovation and new houses going up. Young professionals (university educated as well as skilled tradies) often with young kids are moving in as the older generation moves out. The streets are quiet and safe to walk, with kids always riding bikes/scooters. You feel confident leaving the car out on the road overnight.

Seaview Downs is a short drive or bike ride to excellent beaches (Marino/Seacliff/Brighton), cafes and restaurants/pubs (Seacliff/Brighton/Marion Westfield), and shopping (Marion and Glenelg). Primary schools (government and private) are OK, but there isn't a good high school, so our kids go to private school in Glenelg which is a 15 minute drive. Flinders Uni provides an excellent option for tertiary education later on.

There are plenty of health services, gyms and pools nearby (including the soon to be completed State Aquatic centre which should be sensational) and having Flinders Medical Centre nearby is handy.

The only real down side to Seaview Downs is transport. While it is easy to walk to buses on Seacombe Rd or Morphett Rd and these go to Marion Westfield/the city, it is an hour bus ride to the CBD an they only run half hourly. You can drive to Brighton or Oaklands train station but it is still about an hour long trip. Driving to work in the CBD is about a 45 minute drive in peak hour. Avoid that and work locally if possible!

I've loved living on Cadell st and it is only getting better as the street scaping develops, parks are upgraded and the remaining older style homes are updated or replaced. Cadell st specifically and Seaview Downs generally will be a real 'premiership contender' in the coming 5 to 10 years!
