to live in dayboro or not to live in dayboro..that is the question!

We have been living in Dayboro for the last 2 and half years, previously at Eatons Hill. Primarily we moved to get more land for the horse (now 2 horses).

Although we don't have kids, I think it would be an awesome place to grow up. There are plenty of sporting facilities, soccer, tennis, swimming. I guess it depends what sports they are in to, bear in mind that it is only 20min to Samford and about the same to Petrie. There's a scout group as well. And the creek has a couple of ropes from a tree to swing from into the creek.

Each month the Apex club runs a movie in the Dayboro hall, we have taken our niece there and the kids love it, kids sprawled all over the floor with blankets/pillows watching the movie.

I guess your only problem might be the wildlife. Allthough there is plenty around and I have seen a snake or two, they have never been near the house (could be thanks to the dogs). everywhere gets spiders, no different hear to suburban areas of Brisbane.

I saw another review of Dayboro on this site, complaining about commuting to the city etc and things closing early. Yes true, there is no train at Dayboro it's a drive to the station and yes the carparks are crowded. But when you get home you appreciate the peace and quiet. I work from home so I don't have to commute to the city every day. Even if I did, the traffic on the northside is generally better than the south side. There is an IGA that closes at 8pm, not the cheapest place to shop but we usually shop at Samford or another large supermarket while we are out. A bit of planning will make sure you don't run out of things.

Just make sure you budget to buy an appropriate mower etc to look after an acreage property :-)

Thankyou so much for the info....we are not looking at huge acreage maybe a couple of acres...don't want to spend too much time maintaining a large property. My husband will be commuting to wynnum however this will not be all the time as he works away alot all over the country and overseas..he has a comp car anyway so its just a time factor...obviously we were aware of that when we looked at dayboro..part of the reason for our move to brisbane is lifestyle...my son who is 7 plays league and soccer and my daughter who is 9 competes at national level in cheerleading so I am hoping there is cheerleading somewhere close by??? any help on this front by anyone would be appreciated. We do like Eatons Hill and Cashmere too but i must admit the country feel of dayboro is a bit of a draw for me. Also the samford school seems lovely..we had a look around there when we were in the area a couple of weeks ago. We may need to invest in a couple of dogs if we settle in dayboro to keep the crawlys at bay...my main problem is fear and if I'm on my own not sure what I would do...is there a local snake catcher? :) I'm not too bad with spiders but my husband is paralyzed with fear at the sight of large spiders...hunstmans etc....I know we sound ridiculous but we have to take it into consideration...

What is the proce of a ride on mower roughly?

not sure on the cheerleading... perhaps the cheerleading association could give you some information.

I think dayboro only has soccer, not 100% sure, think there might be league at Samford..

as for a mower 2-3k will get a basic ride on. more you spend the faster and bigger they are therefor less time required...

there are some nice places that are "suburban feeling" but with a bit of land. we used to live in the same street as this one. great spot, just out of town and nice quiet cul-de-sac... town water

close to the township will have water everything else will be tank water, this place is not sewered but a bit closed to town is sewered. we live on Armstrong Creek Rd now, a little further into the hills but still lovely.

obviously Nathan you dont follow rugby league as Dayboro has the most successful division 2 team in the competition plenty of junior sides as well, soccer and netball feature quite strongly as does horse riding etc, the nearby suburbs are strong in aussie rules, basketball,baseball, cricket, athletics, we are not completely cut off. In reply to the snakes and spiders if you go looking you will find them as most of Australia, I live on acrerage at Armstrong Creek and see quite a few reptiles but they appear to be timid unless you are stupid enough to try to catch them. all up it is a great place to live as we moved up from Sydney in 1994 and dont want to leave, Jorge

Dayboro is a long commute to Brisbane cbd. Perhaps consider Samford if you want to live on average as it is one of the closer average areas. Has a great State School and within easy commute to shops and other ammenities. Has a village with some great small restaurants too. As well as great sporting facilities such as tennis and soccer.
