Reviews of Donald Street, Brunswick East
"A diamond in the rough..."
Donald St is in an amazing location - close the the city, accessible to trams, more and more eating out options coming this way up lygon st and not too far from the new cool end of thornbury. Merri Creek goes all the way to the city, large park with city views with an oval, dog area, kids playground and an old school velodrome, 5 mins from Ceres (great cafe, organic shop and nursery). Easy to get into the city, to the airport. Generally very quiet. Although there are elements of roughness in this street - dodgy family (understatement) dealing dodgy things, hopefully one day soon will be gone, factories will one day be replaced with tasteful development (we hope), and the council will one day adhere to its greening policy that seems to have missed this street entirely - no trees, very wide street, which means every now and then some awesome dude comes to do circle work on a weekend. delightful. Also McDs rubbish is a problem due to bogans/idiots parking next to the park and chucking rubbish out the windows. arrrgh. Agree houses are a mixed bunch, but with property so expensive who has the cash to renovate!?! One day it will look better.
Great for
- Good access to trams
- Good resturants
- Ceres
- Access to good parks
- Close to a river
Not great for
- Bogans doing burnouts at night
- Crap houses

"Not the greatest street in a great pocket of Brunswick East"
This street is a bit ..... weird. There are some pretty average / crap houses along here. But then you get a massive chunk of the oval with the new pavilion, which is really nice! There's a Scout Hall and then u get this evil-cheesy Reception Hall (for -- you guessed it -- really cheesy weddings, parties, whatevers) and a few light industrial buildings.
So it's a really mix-mash of buildings all the way along this street.
But the area is great :) Parks and ovals near by. Great location to public transport options. There's the Merry Creek river / bike path which is a great asset to the area.
Location is good but the real-estate needs to get updated big time.
OH! How could I forget! the street is really wide -- must have been for large trucks to access the Quary near by, when there was a quary here. But, now asshats use the street to do donuts and circle work and burnouts at night. Fail-kids :(
