Looking for a home in Donvale?

"High Ranking Donvale"

Donvale offers the best of both worlds. Whilst being close to nature and offering a magnitude of parks and reserves, it also has all the benefits and comforts that a city life offers. Donvale Reserve and Aranga Reserve dog park, are some of parks that provide great play spaces for children, walking tracks and a range of sporting facilities such as soccer, tennis, football, cricket and basketball. Not forgetting the Mullum Mullum Park which is another wonderful attraction feature for residents in the area. Donvale popularly hosts the Donvale Warrandyte Rotary market every month at Tunstall Square Shopping Centre, where you will find a variety of fresh produce, mix of clothing, crafts and trinkets. Park Orchard market is a community market that offers a diversity of fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables, eggs, honey, bread, cheese with a variety of deli products and an assortment of goods from artisans and craftsman. Donvale is also home to many good schools, namely Donvale Primary School, Donvale Christian College and Carey Baptist Grammar School. With the advantage of public bus service at your doorstep, choice of 2 close trains stations to choose from (Mitcham and Nunawading) and Eastlink moments away, Donvale is a favourable and popular choice.

For a standard 4-bedroom house, you can expect to pay approx. $560.00 per week in rent.

"Hidden Bush Sanctuary"

Donvale is a beautiful suburb, that consists of a mixture of manicured acreages, bush blocks and suburban houses. One of its striking attractions is the local Yarran Dheran - a breathtakingly beautiful bushland Park- located on the border of Donvale, with paths that follows the banks of the Mullum Mullum Creek. For nature lovers, many native species of wildlife, particularly birds, live in the park, and a walk along the Mullum Mullum creek trail will not leave you disappointed. Despite being surrounded by nature, Donvale is surprising close to amenities. It has the perfect balance of country feel living, but city convenience. If you live on the eastern part of the suburb, Eastland, Costco are a quick drive away. You have a choice of 4 train stations (Nunawading, Mitcham, Heatherdale and Ringwood) to choose from, but if you chose to drive, the eastern freeway is not far away. It is very quiet and peaceful though, as the eastern freeway runs below as a tunnel through the suburb, leaving the Bushland protected. The suburb itself is only 19 kms from the city and is an easy drive.

If you are unconvinced, all you have to is look up a map, Melway or Google Earth, and you will immediately be able to see just how beautifully green the suburb is, and how close it is to amenities. Better still, pay Yarran Dheran a visit, explore the many walking paths and go for a scenic drive around suburb. You will no doubt appreciate this little place of sanctuary in Melbourne’s east.

"Glorious hidden gem"

I don't believe Donvale gets it's just reward when compared to Templestowe and Doncaster. It's a very safe and quiet suburb with very green tree lined streets, quality demographic, very impressive sports and recreation facilities as well as excellent schools and access to public transport. It is very under valued at this stage, especially the original part which is east of Tunstall Road and west of Springvale Road. Gives value for money in this pocket in an around Wright Avenue and Roy Street. Blocks can be used as family homes or developed into double storey duplex townhouses. Absolute quality. Hidden undervalued gem everyone. Shhhh maybe we should keep it a secret.

"Paradise in the East"

I have lived here for the last 30 years (my entire life). The people in Donvale are very friendly and warm, there are so few incidents of actual trouble in the neighbourhood, I could count them on one finger. The people make the suburb in my opinion, and based on that notion, Donvale is a great place to live.

It is very green, plenty of parks and open spaces for families and kids. On a summer's day, its absolutely wonderful, with lots of people out for walks and enjoying the weather.
One of the other big pluses is the multicultural diversity, with plenty of different races living in the area and most importantly living in harmony.

Tunstall Square is a short walk away, with Donvale Primary School and a kindergarten located nearby. The suburb has everything you would want other than pubs etc. But that is a good thing in my opinion, less drunkards wandering around at night :)

Donvale is a gem of the East, with rising house prices reflecting the demand in the area, I would seriously consider Donvale above other surrounding suburbs in the Doncaster area. You cannot go wrong!

"Train line going in"

a suburb that's about to get very expensive with the train line - i hear running along the eastern freeway (i have insider knowlege on this!) houses in the area - esp those that are positioned before doncaster road will be the ones people want. so best to buy in that area for long-term financial gain!

Great for

  • - proximity to eastern freeway, shops, schools

with train lines also comes vandals of grafitti along the rails, and potential crime around stations...

"Wonderful and quiet family area, close to eastern freeway, shopping centres and schools."

i moved here from the (noisy and congested) inner south eastern suburbs and haven't looked back. in this area you have a lovely hilly and leafy area with some great views of the city. its very safe and is just lovely to see kids riding their bikes and playing on the streets - just like what i used to do when i was a kid growing up in the 70'/80's! every time i have gone for a walk (pushing the pram), people always say hello to me as they collect their mail or as they walk by which is so nice.
there are plenty of shopping centres to choose from - tunstall square, devon plaza, jackson court and the fabulous westfield - all within close range, yet far enough away from the traffic in central doncaster.
if you purchase before doncaster road, being so close to the eastern freeway (which flows 100% better than the m1 'carpark' :) i can get home from the city in 20 minutes in peak hour!
transport is really good and with the propsed doncaster train/rail link (my cousin works for the compay that is doing the feasibility project for the government - and the train/rail link is a goer - its just now a matter of 'when') watch house prices sky rocket. this suburb is a hidden gem :)

"Great for young families ... close to everything and much cheaper than neighbouring suburbs."

Moved recently to Doncaster East from Hawthorn and loved the area straight away. So close to everything. You have great shopping areas (Westfield Shopping town ... forget Chadstone :-), many local shopping strips and big supermarkets and surprisingly a lot of great restaurants (was really surprised). A lot of parkland ...

Ok ... not ideal for nightlife ... there you need to live in Richmond, St Kilda or CBD.. But it is the perfect spot for a couple or to raise kids.

Your are 15km-18km out of the city ... but the Eastern Freeway is great. I take 15 min to Richmond (not in rush hour) and around 25 min in rush hour. Works perfect for me. Downside: Doncaster East has no train or tram station. They planned it so many times (it was even in the 1966 train network plan as under construction ... but never happened ... there is pretyy good express bus to the city (own lane on freeway). On the other hand the pricing is pretty ok for Melbourne ... much cheaper than Box Hill or Blackburn ... it is just over the freeway and gets cheaper ... crazy world.

"The Best Of Both Worlds"

Donvale is part 'leafy suburban' part 'bush retreat' depending on which section you looking at. Bordering Doncaster East, Mitcham, Warrandyte and Ringwood you get the picture. Public transport is accessed via Springvale Rd - one of Melbourne's most valuable arterials - the ambling Park Rd - a central road for this suburb - and Glenvale Rd - the road that leads directly to Ringwood. The blocks vary from your typical suburban blocks to large acres bordered by untouched bushland. Best of all is the proximity to shopping and services at Tunstall Square and Eastland as well as the existence of a quality school, Whitefriars Catholic College, right in the middle! So, you see, it is possible to have a leafy landscape AND all the modern services just minutes from all that you need.
The landscape is beautiful and the position perfect... for more information on this suburb or to view properties for sale in the area see www.philipwebb.com.au
