Reviews of Ferguson St, Williamstown

"Just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and public transport"

Friendly neighbors and neighborhood, with rarely less than a ‘hello’ when passing anyone while going for a walk. Spoilt for choice when choosing which direction to walk, to the beach, along the stand for view of the city, down to point Gellibrand or past the restaurants for a gelato.

Good choice of restaurants and cafes; however personally I avoid the restaurants on Nelson Pde during the busy summer months. Cafes on Ferguson St have better food and a reasonable price to boot. Fresh oysters for $1 each on off the pier on weekends. Market once a month.

Good options for a decent coffee (number exploded over the last couple of years). A number of good dentists and 16 odd hair dressers for the ladies.

Options to get into the city: Ferry (albeit limited and expensive), 20 mins on the train to Southern Cross, <20 mins by car out of peak hour, around 30 during peak hour, 30 min by bike into the dock lands. Being out of the way there is very little through traffic.

6+ pubs within a 10/15 minute walk, a couple of which server restaurant quality food and have some real beer options.

"Fabulous water location - like a village (but in Melbourne)"

I was told Williamstown is the nicest bay suburb of Melbourne and I was looking for something close to everything. I was recommended to the lovely boutique bed & breakfast Captain's Retreat on 2 Ferguson Street. Ferguson Street offers everything a tourist like myself and even locals desires - restaurants, yacht-clubs, walking-tracks and all other typical village shops. All this and only 20 minutes by train to the CBD.
