Reviews of Fitzroy Grove, Chadstone
"Everything within an arm's reach!"
I was very suprised when I moved to Huntingdale Road in Ashwood, I was originally a bit wary of moving out 'into the suburbs', but Ashwood is so well equipped, I've never looked back!
The public transport is fantastic, with Jordanville station giving you a quick 30ish minute ride into the city, or quicker if you catch an express train. Plus, because it's a short line, you're always guaranteed a seat on the train. The bus service up and down Huntingdale Rd is exceptional, with regular buses to Chadstone (easier than taking the 5 minute drive and then looking for a car park - especially at Christmas) and the universities.
We have 2 primary schools, a high school and four childcare centres within 5 minute walk of our house, as well as at least half a dozen well maintained parks which makes it a great family suburb. There are lots of young families in the surrounding streets and numerous playgroups running. There are also a number of gyms, and the YMCA within 5 minutes drive. I have found all of our neighbours to be very friendly, and we often have street BBQs or get togethers, and I have met lots of local residents while walking on the many walking/bike tracks in the area.
Just because you're out in the suburbs doesn't mean you have to miss out on cafes either, there are 2 great cafes less than 1km away, but unfortunately they don't stay open late into the night, which makes the nightlife a little dull. Still, the Glen Waverley cafe strip is a 7 minute drive, and the Armadale restaurants are still only 10-15 mins away.
I have never heard of a crime or incident the whole time we have lived here, probably due to the well run neighbourhood watch scheme. Because there is a diminishing housing commission area about 5kms away in Chadstone the area is also very well serviced by multiple community centres and free courses / activities.
I don't think you can beat Ashwood as a suburb that isn't too far from the city, but not out in the sticks either. It is rapidly growing and gaining value, so a great place to buy a house!

I really love this street! It's one of the best in Chadstone and has some lovely homes!
