Reviews of Flood Street, Leichhardt

"Ideal location in Leichhardt"

Flood Street is one of the major cross streets through Leichhardt from Petersham, parallel to Norton St in the western section of Leichhardt. There is easy access to both Parramatta Road and the City West Link and with no traffic it is a breezy 10 minute drive into the Sydney CBD.

The intersection of Flood St and Marion St boasts Leichhardt Marketplace - an extensive local shopping mall with a Woolworths, Target, Aldi, drive-through BWS bottle shop, food court and specialty stores. Marketplace has free parking but is definitely not as upmarket as Norton Plaza, just up the road on Norton St. The vibe is more local families and shoppers from surrounding Petersham, Lewisham and Ashfield, than the much more trendy and touristy Norton St. The intersection also has several decent Italian restaurants, video store, medical practitioners, a late-night pub, and beauticians and the like.

The 455 bus runs down Flood St from Balmain, and there are 6 other buses at Marketplace that run through the Inner West and down Parramatta Rd to the city. The street (and area) is a mixture of couples with kids and older Italian couples. Most homes are semi-detached workers' cottages; many renovated.

Flood St is approximately half way between the busy hub of Norton St, and the fabulous delis, pasticcerias and pizzerias of Haberfield - each a 5-10 minute stroll. The Bay Run is also a 5-10 minute walk away, as is the excellent off-leash dog park next to the canal separating Leichhardt and Haberfield.

The intersection of Flood St and Marion St is a destination for foodies with AC Butchery's famous gourmet sausages and meats, the one-hatted Bistro Ortolan french-influenced restaurant, and Caffe Bianchi for Sydney's best freshly roasted coffee (although strangely they don't make coffee beverages). The best coffee can be found at Bar Passalacqua.

The proximity of the shopping centre, parks, public transport and foodie destinations makes this street and part of Leichhardt ideal for families with kids.
