Reviews of Fraser Close, Kanimbla

"Established trees, gardens and community"

I moved to Fraser Close in June 2009 - and on my first afternoon was welcomed by two neighbours. The street has a friendly, family, community feel - where people (majority are owner - occupiers ) can be seen walking together with pets and children. There is even a resident pea - hen which wanders around to visit houses in the street each afternoon. Lush, shady trees line the street - which is only 6.5km to the CBD - yet does not attract through traffic as it is a 'Close' and it is just far enough away from Reservoir Road to be reasonably quiet. The established homes were built in the late 80s and many of them have been renovated and rendered on the outside. Most are on blocks over 700-800m2. And having been through several cyclones and are still standing - so you know they were built well. There are also walking tracks along the Cairns Regional Council reserve which adjoins Moody Creek and there is also a wonderful playground at Ramsey Park, located at the end of Lawson Close around the corner. Some nights you can hear the cane train passing by - which really reminds you that this is Far North Queensland ! There is also abundant bird life - lorikeets, cockatoos, tropical pigeons, curlews, hawks, owls, crows and pee wees are all fond of visiting our yard. The 500mtre high mountain backdrop provides great views of thick rainforest and eucalypts - and we are lucky enough that seeds and spores from the rainforest provide us with free birds nest and staghorn ferns that just magically pop up on the trunks of some of our older trees! A new service centre with shops has been recently approved by the council and will be built on the second roundabout 500mtres down the road on Ramsey Drive. There is also the recently drawn up Cairns Public Transport Plan which has a bus station for Kanimbla to be built on Reservoir Road. What else can I say ? Sick of sitting in traffic just to get into Cairns and want cool breezes, convenience, safety and to be high enough to never flood ? Come to Kanimbla !
