Reviews of Headingley Road, Mount Waverley

"Cemetary with lights"

Headingley road has mainly a mix of elderly retired people and families, with a fast-growing chinese community. The high number of elderly people is probably due to the fact that mount waverley has been (and maybe still is??) a dry zone with little night life to speak of (unless a day in at the local florist-coffee shop is a big one for you). The families probably settle here because it is pretty quiet in terms of night life and there are plenty of schools around, although there aren't really any "high-rating" private secondary schools near by if that's what your after. I guess part of the reason the chinese community has grown so rapidly in the area of late would be because of the chinese school which operates on saturday at mount waverley secondary college. Most of the time the local traffic isn't bad except for when chinese school is in, at which time this road and those surrounding become jam packed with very bad drivers.
The blocks of land are reasonably large, although i have witnessed a recent trend of dividing blocks in half to sell for more money.
There are a plenty of parks around which is nice. Occasionally the parks are a gathering place for pissed secondary students on Fridays and Saturday nights but they dont cause too much problem apart from maybe a bit of noise and graffiti every now and again.
Our street had a very high burglary rate about five to ten year's ago but that seems to have settled down now. All in all i think it is now quite a safe street.
The garbage wheelie bins are pretty small and really annoying because the handle is too low to the ground and too close to the body of the bin which causes you to wheel the bin into the back off your feet when you are trying to transport it. However, I have learned to live with this significant problem.
Headingley Road is within 5 minutes drive of 3 large supermarkets. Although if you want to go shopping for anythign other than food you'll have to head to the Glen (about 7 min drive) and Chaddy (about 10-15 mins).
The average house value would probably be about 400,000-500,000 on this street.
For the youngins, decent nightlife is a fair hike away. I'm talking about a thirty five to forty dollar taxi ride if you want to head into more happening areas like st kilda or the city. There is nothing decent that is close by anyhow.
For lovers of food, wine and coffee it would be best to take the seven minute drive to glen waverley where they have fairly nice restaruants and cafes around. There is not much going on in the mount waverley centre. Fatties can stay in and order fast food which is closer by though.
Mobile phone reception seems pretty good in my street although there are a few troublesome sposts nearby, but the problem areas really are quite small and I think much depends on which carrier you are using.
There is a fitness first gym about 5-10 minutes drive away, around syndal station. Good gym but gets really packed on monday, tues nights after work.
Mount Waverley station is about 5 mins drive/25 min walk away. I dont do public transport anymore so im not going to rate it, i'm sure it's fine but i'd prefer to use a car.
There is a big bulk billing gp clinic close by which is usually pretty packed, but if you book early you should be right. Just make sure you know a week ahead of time that you are going to be sick and make an appointment then. Otherwise there is a private gp clinic up near mt waverley train station.
Headingley road is about 20 mins drive from monash uni, although a lot would depend on your time of departure.

Overall:
Good for families because of parks, schools and safety.
Good for retirees because very quiet and nothing to do here.
Bad for singles because nothing to do here and a fair distance away from something to do.
Bad for couples who want to have fun, but OK for couples who are ready to settle down and start a family.
