"Lots of great options here."

Jones St has a range of living options, from terrace houses, to older apartment blocks, to modern apartment blocks, to heritage listed apartment blocks. A few of the terrace houses look a little grotty, but nothing extreme as you would find in other inner-city suburbs. All depends on where you choose to live and remember that you get what you pay for (so someone who comes here for a couple of months and lives in a cheap studio apartment in a block filled with uni students is going to have a vastly different experience to someone who lives in an upmarket secure apartment building... Jones St mainly has upmarket blocks anyway). Many apartment blocks are key-access-only buildings with security guards and/or property managers on site. Several nice parks nearby. Of course there are a few dodgy looking laneways coming off the street, but you're going to find that anywhere in the inner city. If you are walking around at night, then obviously choose the well-lit main street over the dodgy back alleys with no lights...! There are several cafes, restaurants and convenience stores on Jones St. Jones St is also close to the main arteries of William Henry, Harris and Wattle. UTS and TAFE both have entrances/buildings on Jones St.
Pros
  • Range of living options
  • Parks
  • Cafes, convenience stores, restaurants
Cons
  • Commuter traffic on the main arteries at peak hour

"Sucks BUT WAY BETTER THAN MOUNTAIN STREET"

Here the neighbors suck...but I can still bear it. In Mountain Street, they were really unbearable. However, the neighbors are still dirty, noisy and rude. I wouldn't stay in here in long term. The power supply here is sometimes unstable.

"Maybe just for uni students..."

This street is way better than the Mountain Street nearby. At least it is relatively less noisy. Regarding the safety, it is not ideal but still acceptable. You should expect to have break-ins once in a while. The neighbours are still noisy. But as I mentioned before, it isn't too bad. Pests are easily found since the neighbors are dirty somehow. I would only recommend for uni students for short term stay. I myself would not prefer to stay in here even for medium term.

"Great place to live"

Love living in Ultimo. Close to everything, the city, Glebe, Darling Harbour. Trendy up and coming area.

"Very noisy & dangerous at night. Rude neighbor."

Most residents are uni students who move in and out very frequently. As a result, the security is very bad. I had 2 break-ins in six months even with doors and windows locked. As mentioned previously, the neighbors change a lot and are pretty rude & dirty. Messy and noisy especially at night. However, it is close to uni and Chinatown. If anyone chooses this place, he/she is choosing convenience over safety, quietness and tidiness. Not good for anyone except uni students in short term. I would not stay here again after graduation.

Aves
Aves I couldn't agree less. I find that, like any neighbourhood, it takes some effort to become part of the community. Dirty and rude? No more than any other busy inner city location. If you want peace and quiet go to St Ives.
