Reviews of Kalgoorlie, WA

"A super town to make dreams happe"

Kalgoorlie is such a soft spot for me. I moved for a job opportunity and what an amazing experience I had. There are constant events and things happening you are never board in Kal.
The people are friendly mainly because every one is from somewhere else but the locals welcome you with open arms!
A great place to raise a family, make a family or get highly intoxicated at the gold bar.
Take the jump move to the Wild West you’ll love it .

Great town for work, family and friends. The people there welcome you with open arms and don't care where you come from as long as you pay your way and have respect for others.

"Right time to invest"

South Kalgoorlie and Boulder are good buys at the moment, good quality homes, some are a bit older but solid built. Now even better with lots of HomesWest homes spread around town and the "crime scene" shifted towards Lamington (see media reports)

"not just a dustbowl"

there are so many different parts of kalgoorlie so make sure youir real estate agent has used the right suburb heading ( they often print the wrong one)
HANNANS used to be the money zone, though a lot of homeswest houses have been allocated in recent years so take the time to drive around the block.
LAMINGTON north from Varden street and keeping to the east you are guaranteed peace and quiet. then it depends on the street and how many homeswest have been allocated note lots closest to west lamington
CENTRAL KAL: varying community, busy commercial zone and mostly singles and homeswest with a scattering of descent ppl. south of hannan st is better
PICADILLY yep the size of the blocks are larger therefore more affluent, some smaller with private estates
SOUTH KALGOORLIE/ ADELINE/ GOLDEN GROVE call it what u want the neighbourhood is still the same. a scattering of hard working families and a truckload of troublemakers. good luck if u manage to never have a problem...ever
BOULDER theres a good strip between lionel st and federal rd/ boulder rd... but check as sm streets do have units in a small section
SOUTH BOULDER this area is hard to define; low numbers piesse to forrest are not friendly but low numbers king and dwyer are. then hopkins and vivian are a bit less desirable. higher numbers and mid numbers depend on street, most of dwyer is good.
SOMERVILLE< BROADWOOD you can tell by the price this area is quiet
O'CONNOR there are many scatterings of homeswest so as much as the homes seem reasonably new and neat- check the neighbourhood. Prices in Mosconi etc show how nice these streets are

no. every suburb has good and bad areas. Piccadilly is not better than Boulder/ South Boulder/ Hannans/ South Kalgoorlie/ Lamington...

Yes its true all the suburbs come with sunshine and rain so its really just a matter of being lucky and a bit of research!

if you are unlucky enough to have noisy neighbours, the local shire council will not help you at all. If you buy a house, you are stuck with the problem!!!

Rentals in Kalgoorlie

"Large Gold MiningTown with plenty to offer"

Kalgoorlie is 595 kms east of Perth and was once inhabited by the Maduwangka people and the word Kalgoorlie come from the aboriginal language meaning Silky Pear Bush. In 1893 gold was discovered at Mount Charlotte and within days the population exploded and by 1903 the population was 30,000 and there were 93 hotels and 8 breweries. Many large mining companies moved in the later years and the Golden mile as it became know is still being worked to this day. Kal as it is affectionately called has a good visitor centre which give information on finding your way around, local buses etc. There are some great opportunities for work in kalgoorlie not only in the mines but in retail, hospitality etc. House prices are quite good with bargain to be had and rentals are very much the same. Educations wise there are a choice of primary schools and 4 high schools to meet the educational needs of the population. There is plenty of shopping facilities for all your needs as well as pubs, clubs, cinema for entertainment. Getting to Kal is far easier now than in days gone by with regular rail and bus services from Perth and the eastern states via the Indian Pacific. Air travel has made Kal easily accessible in a relatively short time from Perth. A visit to the Kalgoorlie Museum is a must and a walk down the main street offers some great examples of historic buildings. See the School of Mines Museum and the Goldfields war Museum. Now seeing you are here what about a little prospecting? Contact the Western Australian Dept of Minerals and Energy or you local Minelab Store for information.

"Quite an amazing place seeminly situated in the middle of nowhere"

Kalgoorlie has a uniqueness all of its own. Situated in what seems to be the middle of nowhere this gold rich city is Western Australia's largest inland city. When gold was discovered in 1893 Kalgoorlie became a dominant city in the forming of Western Australia. Today the city is still mining gold and is still a very rich town.

Tourism also plays a very strong role in the city. Tourists flock to Kalgoorlie at all times of the year to view the enormous gold mining holes and to also see some exquisite historic buildings that are still used today.

Kalgoorlie is also a very important step in going east by road. Travellers often stop over here before heading across the Great Victoria Desert and the east. As expected in a strong mining town, services are very good and the city has to virtually stand alone as it is over 700km from Perth. It also services the a large rural area surrounding the township.

Earnings are high in Kalgoorlie and because of this there is an attraction for young families and with this comes very good facilities for bringing up children. There are lots of parks, childrens attractions, bike tracks and good support of child care centres.
