"Cheap living close to city"

I have lived here 5 years and despite Kenilworth street being in a semi industrial area, and typical lower end property values I find it doesn't have the negatives normally associated with this.

The street is busy in mornings and afternoons on weekdays as its a great shortcut between North and Jellicoe streets. It is a heavy vehicle street, but maybe one or two trucks a night at worst. New roundabout will rid that anyway.

Kenilworth street is typically a mix of retirees and first home owners, as fair as I know not many rentals in the street, maybe half dozen. As such renovations are spreading amongst the first home owners and and many of the old houses in the street are coming up quite nice. I'd say at least a quarter are undergoing some form of renovation. The long term residents have generally kept their place tidy and just concentrate on the garden.

Kenilworth street is inside the loop that the trains follow in and out of town. Much like anywhere within 1km of train tracks they can be heard on a quiet night, but its not intrusive.

Crime around the suburb is average, but within the street I don't think too much happens. Passers through more likely the problem if any than residents. Anyone who was killed around here must have done something. Might hear the odd drunken person walking home after a big night, but that is pretty standard with young people in area.

Bus service runs past, at least one bus stop, a corner store, mechanics, auto electricians, powdercoaters, sandblasters, engineering shop, motorcycle shop, pubs, service station, car wash, chinese food, park and cycling velodrome and many others within 500m of street. Maybe 2km from city centre at most, and a cheap cab fare home after a big night. Private hospital around 1km away.
