"Getting worse & worse."

The traffic around the area is getting heavier and heavier, just picking something up which should take 5 minutes can take 30 minutes at certain times, I live near Rocky Point Road and we have drivers speeding down side streets to avoid congestion. Crossing the Highway is tedious most times. Bus services are poor with constant delays or buses not even turning up. There has been a huge increase in units being built in the area making congestion worse. The hospital area is extremely busy and the services are poor with huge waiting lists. Some areas around Green Street & French Street and West of the train line are full of garbage on the footpaths and shopping trolleys. There are housing commission residents in these areas as well with constant issues. Parking is a nightmare with council rangers always ready to book people even in the evenings. Bayside Council rates are extremely high but the Council is useless and ignores most resident submissions. Bayside council approves massive concrete houses which have destroyed many streetscapes. Schools are average with many people sending their children to out of area schools. A lot of new people moving in the area just don't care about their Neighbours and the area and just do what they want no matter the impact on others.

"Abundance of amenities and access to water views"

Kogarah is a highly versatile, affordable suburb in Sydney's south, with plentiful amenities for families, young people and professionals. It has a decently sized shopping centre, which can be accessed by foot or car (an added convenience). The library is very spacious, with a myriad good reads catering for the local community. There is a plan to make Kogarah a major health hub, following the upgrade of St George Hospital - which could see an improvement of medical facilities across the Georges River LGA. Kogarah also has fair transport links, and may continue to have even better with a metro line extension to Macquarie Park or Parramatta. The schools in this area are excellent for what they're worth, with top selective school St George Girls ranking out in the top 30. Even with medium rise apartments, the main arteries of Kogarah are not all too crowded, so as far as I am concerned, a very viable destination to live.

"Perfect pocket of Sydney"

Ive lived in Kogarah for 18 months and Im loving it. Right now Im sitting on the balcony and all I can hear are birds. The suburb is full of pretty tree lined streets, with beautiful established homes. Im a five minute walk to the train station, a 10 minute drive to the beautiful beaches of Dolls Point and Sandringham (where you can always find parking) and just down the road from Kogarah Bay. So many beautiful places to walk the dog. The suburb is just a one hour drive down the coast to Stanwell Park; a favoured weekend pastime. There is a great local shopping centre, with both Woolies and Aldi. Specialty food stores, like Kogarah butchers, deli and Adam & Eves are perfect for fresh groceries. There is great coffee at cafes like Laughing Goat and Cafe Neo. Ive lived in the City and the East, and I honestly think Kogarah is still an undiscovered gem...with much better transport links. Property is still very affordable...for now

Thank you for your review sianb1, I see that you have a dog. We're considering to rent a unit in Kogarah as well. Is there any place you take the dog for a dip? I know that Ramsgate beaches are officially not allowed for dogs, but is it tolerated like on weekday evenings? Or maybe the boat ramp on Kogarah Bay would be suitable?

"Beach, City, Shopping! Heart of St George."

I've lived in Kogarah for just over a year now and it's been great. Kogarah is a nice suburb with a lot of good facilities. The suburb has a shopping centre, two hospitals (one public and one private), as well as a range of restaurants and shops. The people here are friendly and the close proximity to the city, M5 and Princess Highway make it easy to get places. Kogarah is only a 5-10 minute drive from the lively Brighton-Le-Sands beach, the bustling Westfield Hurstville and to top it off, Sydney Airport is just around the corner which makes travelling very easy.

"Nice suburb"

Kogarah is a very nice suburb, considered to be the center of St George area. Close to the city, very good transport, health, education and a safe suburb. Prices are ok considering all the advantages this suburb have. I would say this would be a good tome to buy here as there is plenty of upside for this area in the near future.

"A decent place to live"

I lived in Kogarah for 21 years. Kogarah has a small shopping centre but Rockdale Plaza and Hurstville Westfield are a short drive away. Kogarah is a major station on the train line, and it only takes about 20 minutes to get into the city. Other points to note are the proximity of St George Hospital, a nice, modern library and a few good restaurants. There are also quite a few schools in the area.

"Close to transport"

Kogarah has a great shopping centre with local medical facilities and a good transport.

Good oportunity for first home buyers to purchase an apartment, for Uni students due to the easy train access to the city.

"Kogarah - Close to all amenities."

Kogarah is 16kms south of the Sydney CBD and is close to the sores of Botany Bay. Kogarah has some very old buildings for the visitor to see in including the Kogarah Railway Station, The School of Arts, and the old Courts House. The area has a large shopping centre with supermarkets and specialty shops and the town square is home to the Kogarah Library and Cultural Centre as well as many cafes and restaurants. Kogarah is a residential area with many houses and units, some good schools and easy transport. There is no shortage of sporting facilities with something for everyone. Kogarah is the northern home of the St George Illawarra Dragons NRL team.
