Reviews of Kurmond, NSW

"Great for the family"

Kurmond is great little suburb for raising a family with a variety of acreage blocks as well as a limited number of good sized suburban blocks around 1/3 acre, for those who want the feeling of being rural and having space without the rural upkeep. There is a local school in Kurmond and a selection of a about four other public schools and fantastic independent school nearby. The local shopping centre has a village atmosphere with virtually everything you need available in the ten or so shops there. There's Kurrajong Village a hop skip and a jump away and several large shopping centres and big supermarkets a few minutes down the hill in Richmond and North Richmond.
There's an eat-in restaurant of passable quality on Bells LIne of Road and a posh and delicious 2 hat restaurant about ten minutes up the hill at Kurrajong Heights.
Sadly no pub in the area, but that limits the number of drunken idiots on a Saturday night anyway.
The locals range in age from young families to older people, and horsey types, and they seem to be a variety of professions from manual jobs to corporate management types who commute to town.
Not alot of ethnic diversity though there is a cross section of straight and gay couples and some artistic and acting types too.
Public transport is not great though there seems to be plenty of school buses to local schools and private schools further afield.
Honestly there's something for everyone here, and it's not too built up either!

"Great for time-out but not to live."

Nice wide open spaces with lots of fresh air, perfect for a weekend away or a holiday. However to live there is a different story. We found the community to be a very closed one not very accepting of new residents. The main road is quite treacherous with accidents happening very frequently. Heavy duty trucks make use of this road right through the night, right through the week so there is always noise. In our experience, criminals find the open areas very inviting to hide in, we have had the police on our property at 2am in the morning looking for car thieves that ran away from the vehicle they had stolen and then crashed nearby. We have also had strangers stopping their vehicles at the top of the property and then just strolling around on the property then leaving after disposing of their litter where they parked. We have had to deal with infestations of redback spiders as well as plenty of funnel web spiders. We also started finding that with the increased cost of fuel, it was getting to be an extremely expensive commute each day. We are actually quite relieved to be back in suburbia and will definitely look at going to country areas such as this on holiday.

Wow! I live in Kurmond and this description sounds like another suburb on another planet. It is very welcoming, and there is a wonderful little village-like shopping centre where everyone knows each other and you can buy local produce, get your hair done, have a massage, buy meat and have a quick takeaway or a gourmet deli sandwich. There's even a second hand bookshop and old fashioned barber! It's delightful. My street has the best unofficial neighbourhood watch program and each Australia day the whole street gets together for a BBQ. This person has rated it for retirees but there are loads of families and people of all socio-economic demographics (though to be frank, there is not a lot of ethnic diversity)....and finally - I haven't seen a single redback spider :-)

"NIce And Green."

Located after North Richmond on your way to Kurrajong, Kurmond offers a mix of houses on building blocks and homes on larger acreage. Both city views, mountain views and views of rolling green hills can be seen. Small town, great surrounds.
