Reviews of Old Bar, NSW

"Filled with drug addicts roaming the streets."

This is a VERY unsafe place, everywhere you go you see people with ski masks on, drunk, roaming the streets of Old Bar. Do not go here, especially if you have children.

"Charming quiet beachside town"

A great little seaside suburb with a lot of amenities close by.

Locals are friendly but also the character is slowly changing as it grows. However, it still has its charm and character.

Enough restaurants and shops but opportunity to grow for a larger population with the small developments happening. Infrastructure will need to keep up.

Lovely beaches and so close to a lot of places. We love it.

"Nice community"

We need one more medical centre and more places in primary school and kindergarten.

"Diamond in the rough"

Recently moved to Old Bar from tnr big smoke. I was intially planning to buy down south at Callala Beach but things didn’t go to plan and glad they didn’t.

Old Bar is a great place, friendly locals, welcoming neighbours, great local shops, close to infrastructure and a fantastic beach. It is stone throws away from national parks including Salt Water National Park.

Great selection of restaurants and cafes up the local strip. An ice cream store is about to open and a new pizza/kebab store recently opened.

So far the streets feel safe and haven’t had any issues.

It is a quiet town, but growing and you do get some tourist over the holiday period.

Old Bar is a great place to visit for the beaches, but it's not a good place to live. The infrastructure is in a state of disrepair, with long waiting lists for kindergartens, primary school is well over capacity at 30 students per class, a local medical center that has stopped accepting new patients, and a nearby hospital that is always overcrowded. Youth crime is on the rise, and there are loose dogs and broken roads throughout the town.

If you're thinking about moving to Old Bar, be sure to do your research and weigh the pros and cons carefully. The town may have its charms, but the lack of infrastructure, pathetic medical care and the rising crime rate make it a less-than-ideal place to raise a family or start a business.

"Go The Kombi Festival"

Just visited Old Bar for the 2013 Kombi Festival and enjoyed every minute of it! I don't know how quiet the town is once the hundreds of visitors have left, but what a great ocean front location. Well worth the road trip down from Bribie Island. Thanks guys, we had a great time.
