Reviews of Peakhurst, NSW

"It's tranquil but the amenities just vanished"

Peakhurst is severed straight through like a bottle cork by Henry Lawson Drive, a distributor to the Canterbury Bankstown council and Liverpool that tends to become very crowded. Shopping centres, restaurants and numerous amenities are lacking in Peakhurst, with most supplies needing to be obtained from Hurstville or Mortdale. The greenery is pleasant, but please include some shopping strip along a street to give it some village feel, not along Henry Lawson Drive.

"Great Suburb For Young Families With Reputable Public Schools"

Peakhurst, colloquially known as 'Peaky', is a suburb in the St George Area of southern Sydney and is part of the Hurstville Council. Moments drive to the M5 distributor and located 21 km south of Sydney CBD.

Peakhurst has a western border on Salt Pan Creek, on the Georges River. Peakhurst Heights is a separate suburb to the south and is sometimes still considered to be part of 'Peakhurst' by some residents of the area.

Peakhurst was named after landholder John Robert Peake. Peake bought 10 acres (40,000 m2) of land from William Hebblewhite in 1838. He donated land for the first Methodist church built in 1856. Peake's name was used when the public school was founded in 1871 and it was later adopted by the suburb.

Peakhurst's commercial centres are predominantly located along Forest Road and Boundary Road. Various retail shops, restaurants and cafes are located near the Peakhurst Inn Hotel on Forest Road.
The main roads are Forest Road, Henry Lawson Drive, Boundary Road, Bonds Road, Isaac Street, Baumans Road. Forest Road, which links to Henry Lawson Drive at Peakhurst, a carriageway that extends through numerous other suburbs in Sydney. Numerous bus companies operate routes through Peakhurst connecting the suburb to the Riverwood, Mortdale, Hurstville train stations and major shopping centres, such as Roselands and Hurstville Westville.
The choice for public schools is accommodating: Peakhurst Public School, Peakhurst South Public School, Peakhurst West Public School and Georges River College Peakhurst Campus.

Popular recreational venues include Grandviews Bowling Club, Peakhurst Park and the numerous sporting fields located at Gannon's Park. The soccer clubs are Peakhurst United and Forest Rangers.

"A great place to live"

Peakhurst is close to Mortdale which has a great little shopping centre, with cafes and restaurants. It is also close to Roselands and Hurstville shopping centres. It is close to the M5 with easy access to beaches and still not far from the city. The people are great - all my neighbours know each other and look out for each other. Love it!!

"safe & quiet"

The neighbors are polite, mostly retirees. The park is just a stone's throw away. Lots of greeneries and birds. Recommended for people who work in the city and do not want the chaos. It is a quiet area with lots of potential.

"A nice quiet place with lots of green and birds"

The suburb is green with lots of large trees, that attract a variety of native birds. There are plenty of parks. The area is also good for kids with several public schools around as well as an art studio and swimming pool. There are several places with good restaurants. If you are looking for a quality dinner out with out braking your bank, Peakhurst is definitely a place to head to. Transport is also good, with train station in Riverwood and Mortdale with fast trains to the city as well as several bus routes to take you to other major centers. There are also major highway in the vicinity, M5 to get you out west or Sydney, Henry Lawson Drive and Forest Road to get you to major shopping centers and in Hurstville and Menai. There are also close by shopping centres in Peakhurst, Riverwood and Mortdale as well as the small industry area where you can find Hardware, Mechanics, Solar power suppliers and many other small lightweight industries
