Reviews of Pine St, Chippendale

"Diverse Demographic with changing profile"

Pine Street is a tree-lined street in Chippendale comprising a mix of renovated and unrenovated terraces and units. The southern end of Pine Street which leads to Cleveland is nicer and features Peace Park with a kids playground and the street is close to Victoria Park. The street is also within walking distance to Broadway Gym (3 mins), Wentworth Park (10 mins) and Ian Thorpe Acquatic Centre. The street is a 10 min walk from Central and on the door step of Sydney Uni and UTS and features several pubs (the Rose, Duck and Swan, The Landsdowne) and is close walking distance to cafes. We rented here for a while befreo deciding to buy. One of the main reasons that we decided to buy was promximity to the city and the fact that unlike many inner city areas there is a sense of community. This is evidenced by the community garden in Myrtle Street and Community Composting Project. We know all of our neighbours and find that people are genrally friendly and open. Crime is not as much of an issue as the media would have you beleive if you are sensible. The other thing is that it is pleasing to see that more families and couples are having children which will improve the feel of the area and reduce the feeling of transience brough about by the volume of uni student rentals - although this adds to the diversity of the area.
