"In flux"
A long street and quite hilly. The end of the street near the river has gone under tremendous change of late with numerous new houses and many renovated. Whilst some of the renovations are tasteful it is disappointing to see some people who have bought into the area because they liked certain characteristics ie, architectural style and environmental significance overlays are hell bent on putting maximum building envelope on the site with little regard for the landscape values that define the area. Many intact stretches of street-scape are being eroded by modern styled architecture - if you like this style maybe Toorak is more your scene. Apart from this the street and area generally is blessed with proximity to the Yarra river and generous open spaces - A great place to raise a family or retire.
Plenty of schools nearby and a train line within walking distance. The high street of Upper Heidelberg Road is fabulous and the aqautic centre is only a short drive away.

It depends on what part of The Boulevard you live on. The south / south west part of it (where the road goes north/south) doesn't have anyone doing any Christmas lights. It the rest of the road, after the roundabount (where it heads east/west and around to Bourke Road) that many people partake in it. Not all, but lots. There's plenty of people 'checking' things out but it's not disturbing. Canterbury is a more expensive version of Ivanhoe. Also has bigger houses.
I heared about many people driving along the Boulevard during Christmas to see the decorations. Is that quite disturbing? Are people obliged to decorate their houses. From your review, though an expensive suburb still missing few things. How would you compare Ivanhoe and Canterburry?
