Reviews of Robjant Street, Hampton Park

"Robjant Street has the potential to be a great place to live"

Robjant Street has the potential to be a good place to live. My neighbours are friendly and we watch out for one another.

Robjant street runs adjacent to the South Gippsland Highway, so there is a significantly raised level of traffic / road noise. You hear this outside your home but you get used to it. Once inside the house we don't hear it.

As the road surface of the South Gippsland Highway becomes more worn and the potholes become deeper, the sound of thunder can sometimes be heard in the area, as the trucks thunder along the highway. Hopefully when the road is eventually resurfaced, the stretch of South Gippsland Highway which runs adjacent to Robjant street can be laid in one continuous length to avoid any noise being generated from ripples or overlap in the tar surface.

In my opinion and experience, Robjant Street is somewhat neglected by the local council, in terms of gardening and maintenance of the public grasslands. This area could be mowed more frequently. The cycle or schedule to deploy the street cleaner / sweeper truck needs to be doubled, as the winds blow much plant and gum tree debris along the sound wall, and this tends to build up. Having a McDonalds store just around the corner means that there is no shortage of senseless drivers who throw their burgers, wrappers, drinks and chicken nuggets etc... out of the car window as they drive along Robjant street, which is disgusting public behaviour really. There is also lots of burnout tyre marks along Robjant street due to hoon activity in the area.

The local council and police would make a small fortune in revenue from fines if they enforced littering / rubbish dumping and anti-hoon driving laws, but unfortunately neither institutions (local council nor police) are interested in public safety or cleaning up the neighbour hood. They just don't care.

All up, it's not a bad area. You can pickup a reasonable home for a reasonable price in a reasonable neighbourhood. It depends on what you are prepared to make of it.

Great for

  • Some residents take pride in their homes, good neighbors
  • Very green adjacent to the sound wall, large trees
  • Choice of shopping - Lynbrook, Hampton Park or Dandenong

Not great for

  • Traffic noise from Sth Gipsland Highway
  • Dumping of rubbish, lots of McDonalds rubbish in the street
  • Dangerous hoon driving in the area
