Reviews of Sandy Bay, TAS

"Prestige"

Arguably Hobart's wealthiest suburb, close to some of the best schools in Hobart. It is very close to the city second highest house prices on average in Hobart, only after Battery Point, but because this is Tasmania, the price is relatively average on a national standard. Great services, very beautiful, wide range of housing options from large old mansions, to new hilltop villas with amazing views. Great option if moving to Hobart. University main campus is also located in this suburb. Active shopping strip.

No undesirable types...so wealthy people are all nice, moral folk are they? How vacuous and souless comments you make. Sandy Bay is a bit clinical and boring but nice views...good for old folk

Ps not that trendy nor stylish. Retro casino in vicinity

I have lived in Battery Point and Sandy Bay over the years. Unfortunately too many residents have an exaggerated sense of entitlement and this makes both areas quite ordinary. Parking is crap in BP for visitors.

leeg7 seems like youre triggered by the term lack of undesirables thus explaining the coping and seething. Perhaps if you are so chuffed by that term so much may I recommend you to live in Rokeby. Maybe then youll appreciate how Sandy Bay lacks the undesirables.

You still get bogans sadly, upper middle ones maybe? Ha ha... or one's coming to visit. And, yes, it can be a touch boring with the slightly richer demo. But... it's close to city, beaches, parks... just not much of a street scene unless you're up closer to city end

ps... comma after bogans.

"Rather Pretentious"

I did quite enjoy living in sandy bay. but i was unfortunate enough to live on a busy street and this is what i base this review on. Sadly I found it a very noisy place to live and the people all seemed "pretentious" and they all wanted to be seen as having an abundance of money but i feel most of this money would be the banks not theirs. and because of this vibe around sandy Bay i found it uncomfortable at times and thats what drove me away from this beautiful suburb. It could have been a place i enjoyed if i had good neighbors and i quiet street and i do hope one day i will be living in one of those streets in sandy bay so i can write another much better review.

"A great place to live for everybody"

Sandy Bay is one of the best suburbs in Hobart. The older area ("the village") has beautiful old houses with nice established gardens, the newer area boasts an eclectic mix of older and newer houses. As the suburb is stretched along the river Derwent the views are second to none. There is also an excellent long sandy beach. Sandy Bay is very conveniently positioned, which means it is close to everything in Hobart (i.e., almost everything is within a walking distance). Easy 10-20 minutes stroll would take you to the University, the city, a number of primary and secondary schools, or the Salamanca. There are two large supermarkets in the main street (Sandy Bay road) and a large number of excellent restaurants and other eateries, as well as various shops and other services. Overall, the suburb is always very popular and provides an excellent value for home owners as well as people looking to buy a rental property.

Rentals in Sandy Bay

"It Drips Money"

Sandy Bay is one of the more salubrious areas of Hobart, and is home to the first legal casino in Australia, Wrest Point Casino. As well, the suburb has beautiful homes with fantastic views over the Derwent River, several marinas, parks, the Olinda Gray sports fields, and a great shopping centre. Its main road, Sandy Bay Drive, is busy, but a nice drive along the foreshore.

Sandy Bay is all that you say. Hopefully some of the money drips into the hands of charities.
