St Kilda is the kind of place where you expect to find violence - it does have robbers, it does have drunks. However more often then not it is a quiet place where it is not crowded and quite safe. Near any tram stop you will find people hanging around even at 11.30pm at night or later - this makes you feel safe because a majority of people you meet are not violent at all.

Thankyou for your answer. I've never visited Melbourne but will be soon with my young daughters and we'll be arriving in the middle of the night. Staying at Redan Apartments.
