Family friendly restaurants in Doncaster/Templestowe/Bulleen

With three young kids it makes it very difficult to dine out as well as make sure there is something that the young ones will eat.

Here's a list of places I know - let me know if you have any more!

1. Veneto Club - Great Bistro with a nice playground close by. If you like good Italian food you will like this. You don't need to be a member to go. Located at 191 Bulleen Road, Bulleen.
2. Doncaster Hotel - located at 855 Doncaster Rd, Doncaster.
A great family pub which has rennovated in the last few years. Good childrens play area and lots of food options http://www.doncasterhotel.com.au/
3. Doncaster Shoppingtown Hotel - located at 19 Williamsons Rd, Doncaster, 3108.
Good for families - you (or your kids) can be noisy and not feel out of place. http://www.shoppingtownhotel.com.au/dining.html
4. Cherry Hill Tavern - located at 189 Reynolds Rd, Doncaster. Been around for years, trusted by locals. Good play area for kids. Behind the Pines Shopping Centre. www.cherryhilltavern.com.au
5. Taco Bill (Mexican) - located at 420 Thompsons Rd, Templestowe Lower.
If you love Mexican food this is good for a family night out. (kids can always eat the chicken nuggets!) http://www.tacobill.com.au/locations/list-all-restaurants/templestowe-lower/
6. Templestowe Hotel - located at 23 Parker Street, Lower Templestowe. Best buffet in town! Also a great kids play area. Very popular with people coming from all around Melbourne. http://www.templestowehotel.com.au/indiner.php
7. TGI Fridays - Doncaster Shoppingtown.
Burgers, steaks, ribs, fajitas. Can get very busy but is very kid friendly (they bring out the food first for kids which is always helpful). http://www.tgifridays.com.au/index.php?page=doncaster-bookings

I know this is totally out of context, but you seems to know the area well. Given that you have 3 kids, do they attend local schools? Could you give some thoughts on good schools in the Doncaster/Templestowe area?

Thanks newbee! I only have limited experience with schools, I attended St Gregory The Great on Williamsons Road, Doncaster and can definitely recommend it. In Templestowe, my personal favourite is St Charles Borromeo on Serpells Road. A great, small school, perfect if you want your child to get extra special attention.

Hi, if you like yum cha, then I can recommend the Golden Dragon restaurant in Templestowe. I reckon it's Melbourne's best yum cha restaurant! It is very child friendly. I have often visited with family or friends and babies or young kids. You need to book ahead to get a table.

Thanks Melstay.

I do love Golden Dragon also.

I must say I had a great night recently with my kids at the Doncaster Hotel. Our kids ate for $8 each, fish and chips and a drink (big kids meals). Kids eat free on Tuesdays/Thursdays though I imagine it would be busy. My tip with kids is to get there at 6pm. Beat the crowds.

Having three young kids I can also recommend Pancake Parlour in Doncaster, Taco Bill in Templestowe and Groove Train at Doncaster Shoppingtown.

Was recently took the kids to PJ's Kitchen Mexican restaurant in Templestowe, loved it. Next step up in my opinion over the standard Mexican takeaway.

If you are in Doncaster, we have found some good meals at the Groove Train at Westfield Doncaster. Something for the whole family. In fact we now prefer it to TGI Friday where we have had some average meals of late.
