"Loving it so far!"

Has all the amenities we need (Woolies, Aldi, Bunnings, Australia Post) but it's still very secluded and peaceful. Neighbors are very friendly. Safe suburb.
I lived in Upper North Shore half my life (Wahroonga, Killara) and I am just as happy living here as I was on the other train line. Wish they could do more frequent trips and increase the speed of the trains.

"Hidden Secret"

Wow. Moved to Thornleigh almost a year ago from inner South Sydney and this suburb such a surprise. Locals all so friendly ( Cupcakes and welcome notes on our doorstep first day), incredible privacy and yet brilliantly connected to shopping and transport. Really impressed - it's our holiday retreat in Sydney, just gorgeous. Bonus points for Westfield, Harris Farm and great little restaurants just 7 mins away at Pennant Hills. Ticks boxes for everyone.

"Great community"

Thornleigh is a lovely place to live, centrally located and convenient with a family oriented feel to it. Lovely schools, punctuated with close transport options.

"Bit of an odd one"

So much to like about this area. Isolated from Sydney and full of green areas. It would appear to be a lovely place to live however I just find the culture to be boring and lacking any originality. Just another typical overpriced Sydney suburb that is safe and flooding with new/old money who want a safe house for their older kids. I grew up here and it was a very different area. No one who grew up here still here, only their aging parents remain

"Really secluded"

Upon entering this suburb from Hornsby, I feel in a sense that I’m moving 40 years back in time. The residential areas are really very isolated, and can easily make one feel solitary. If that’s what you desire, then go ahead, but really, it’s nothing more than a place to reside. The train station is in the southwestern most pocket of Thornleigh, making it fairly inaccessible for residents. Shopping centers are not close by, and yes, there is Hornsby, but even though that actually has some decent ring to it as a suburb, the Westfield is rather gritty.

I tend to disagree. I lived there for 8 years and it's a beautiful suburb. Close to Hornsby but far enough to enjoy peace and quiet. The families in the street were super friendly, there was a Christmas street party every year. Close to great schools and now that the M1 tunnel is open Pennant Hills Road is a much better commute. Easy to get out of Sydney too...in 5 minutes you're on the freeway heading north. Thornleigh also has it's own shopping centre with Woolworths and there are some lovely cafes in the area as well.

"For people who settle for less"

The fact that a resident has to mention as features of Thornleigh " home to the brick pit and corporate McDonald's" says it all.

No-one sensible dreams of living in Thornleigh. It's a desperately average suburban non-entity.
If that's your thing, then great, but the desires and aspirations of most Australian are far higher.

"Best suburb"

Thornleigh is spectacular suburb, it has the perfect amount of quiet yet the community thrives. Very convenient for transport due to train station. Also home to the brick pit and corporate McDonald's . A suburb like no other. Calm, safe and secure. A great place to raise a family. Ranked higher than Roseville, Pymble, Turramurra, Gordon and more. Highly recommended to live here.

"Thornleigh is a wonderful place to live"

We sit on our back verandah looking over our bush backyard and further on the reserve below, and enjoy seeing the lorikeets feeding on the blossom on the trees near us, we say this is our 'piece of heaven', it is truly a beautiful suburb to live in. We live right near the suburb Westleigh, so we walk to the Westleigh shops and meet people we know, our neighbours are lovely, there is definitely a warm community spirit in the suburb. Lots of Parks, Schools, Pre-Schools, there are buses and free commuter parking at the station. Thornleigh is a quiet relaxed suburb but within close proximity to Hornsby or Pennant Hills. The down side is of course the trucks on Pennant Hills road which has been mentioned, but we all longing for the completion of the North Connex where we are assured that it then cost trucks more to use Pennant Hills Road than the North Connex, unfortunately the completion will not be till 2020, but it will come. We live far enough back from Pennant Hills Road not to get the noise. A great suburb, we wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

"Enjoyable 3 years experience"

We have been living in thornleigh for 3 years now and it has been a great 3 years. It's such a convenient location, great local shops (woolies, aldi) and less than 10minute drive to hornsby shopping and dining. Neighbours are very friendly and the street usually is very quiet. House price in Thornleigh has gone up a lot past 3 years but is still cheaper than next door suburb Pennant hills. New train line and the northconnex tunnel are being built making commuting to work a lot easier. Now we are looking to upgrade on our current property and thornleigh is still our number 1 choice.

  • Clean and close to nature
  • Good for young families
  • Easy access to many parks/tennis courts/outdoor activities

"amazing suburb for growing families"

Thornleigh is on the Northern train line, 2 stops from Hornsby. There's a direct rain to the city (50minute commute) and a big Park & Ride carpark next to the station. It's the most underrated suburb on the Upper North Shore, surrounded by more expensive suburbs like Wahroonga, Normanhurst, Pennant Hills and Westleigh.
Shopping is convenient- Thornleigh Marketplace has Woolworths, Dan Murphys, fish shop, butcher, PO, Chemist, Nail salon, Travel Centre & Aldi. Hornsby Westfield is 10 minutes by car if you need more specialty shops.
Schools are amazing- 3 public primary schools serve the suburb, Normanhurst West, Thornleigh West and Normanhurst Public. Turramurra High and Pennant Hills High are also in the zone, as well as selective schools Hornsby Girls and Normanhurst Boys. A range of private schools are also on offer, Barker, Knox, Abbotsleigh, Loreto Normanhurst, Wahroonga Adventist, St.Leos just to mention a few.
I have never felt so safe moving my young family to this suburb. People are so friendly, the streets are surrounded by trees. It is the most amazing place to be bringing up a family!

This family friendly suburb has all the attributes you want in a suburb where you intend to live with your family. Parks, playgrounds, ovals, bush tracks, great schools, shops and more. The only free parking bay for train commuters and only 50min to the city via train. Easy access to the M1 & M2 roads.

"Peaceful, quiet, close to nature yet not far from public transport and shopping centers"

We have lived in Thornleigh for over 2 years now. We enjoyed every second of it. It's quiet, close to parks and national park and most importantly we have lovely neighbours. Most of the houses are owner occupied and many of our neighbours have been living there for over 20 years. The only negative issue is the traffic in Pennant Hills Road in the rush hours.

"Tranquil Oasis - Neighbourhood in the old style!!"

We moved to Thornleigh 5 years ago after living in the Northern Beaches for many years. Ok so there is no beach but within 20 minutes I can be in the city or half way to the Central Coast. We are surrounded by bush and parks, both state and national. Lots space (ovals, playgrounds), open sky (if you peer around all the gum trees). Every school in the area is FANTASTIC. Neither of us ever thought we would find country town Australia here in the suburbs of Sydney

"Thornleigh - quiet, safe and secure living"

I've lived in Thornleigh for over a year and love it. It's great for getting away from your long working day to settle in with the views and close location of Berowra Valley Regional Park. All add to the ambiance of this hideaway. Lorrikeets and red king parrots are abundant for the bird watchers.
