Dampier Street

"Terrific town for retirees"

Dampier Street is just two streets removed from the main street (Johnson Street) with its very good selection of shops and no empty shopfronts which add a sad touch of desperation to many country towns in Australia. The northern end of Dampier Street where I live is also within walking distance of the hospital and doctor's surgery, the schools and a fully-fledged Post Office, affordable independent supermarket/hardware store and the best butcher you will ever come across (although a bit expensive for pensioners). Your pride in your gardens will be enhanced by a visit to a great local plant nursery, and a lazy walk around the fabulous rose-filled town gardens will lift your spirits. The things I like most about Dampier Street are the friendly neighbours up and down this wide tree-lined street containing lovely period homes dating back to the early 1920's, such as my own home named 'Ulana' by the original owners who were and whose family still are respected local identities. I can't think of a better place to retire to.
