Lees Street

"Great Street, great neighbours, fantastic yearly street Xmas party!!"

We found for the 13 years we were at Lees Street a great experience, and miss the friendly people and relaxed way of life! The traffic was minimal, as Algona Road took the traffic away from Lees St. We found very few neighbours unfriendly, we had the occassional unfriendly short term renter. Most houses in Lees Street are owner occupied. The distance from the Day Care (300m - ABC), Charlestown Square, Schools and public transport is fantastic. I would defiantely consider Charlestown to be a 'family' suburb, the night life is minimal, but the Mattara doesn't disappoint and it is only a small taxi ride to Newcastle to the hub of the nightclub scene. Which is great, no drunks and loud groups walking around! Lees Street has it own Public Reserve and is taken care of by Lees Street Landcare. Neighbours are quiet friendly to new people in the street, but not overbearing or steaky beaks. Street parties were usually invited by flyers in the post box and you could be as involved or uninvolved as you like with no prejudice. We LOVED the distance to the beaches, especially Redhead!
