"A busy street, mostly retired people, the area VERY smelly!!!!!!!!"
The street in Altona north is mostly retired people, mostly all friendly and do make it a good place to live,
There are lots of food shopping places.
HOWEVER the area smells 5 days out of 7.
You can smell the:
1. the petrol refinery factory,
2. the kraft factory
3. the pig slaughter factory
4. the lamb slaughter factory
5. the rubbish tip on wednesday & thursdays.
6. and the a sewerage smell( don't know were from)
The smell is that bad that you can not open your windows or doors.
Also the planes fly so low they sound like they are going to land on your roof!
I have lived here for 4 years and am moving out October '07' can nolonger stand it, not healthy to bring up children.
Apart from the above it has all the standard things a normal suburb can offer.
It is close to the city, however the westage is a nightmare!

I would not recommend to noone.
VeryDangerous: Note Recent Murder in Area (Drug Related drive by shooting), lots of gangs (very intimidating unless you buy drugs from them I suppose)
Lots of hoon driving (great if you like watching young male idiots dangerous driving trying to prove their manhood due to inability to socialise with women and their physical reproductive inadequacies!) Poor public transport (no Train station) and traffic is horrendous during peak hour. Also government schools are terrible (see recent performance tables).
Positives Was cheap when I purchased my home;
Brilliant view of Altona Petro chemical refinery and wait for it beautiful refinery petro chemical breezes that drain out even the strongest of perfume. Air quality: poor for health, excellent for medical research re looking at effects of petro chemical plants and the correlation with Lung cancer (see various overseas university studies)
If you like to keep to your self no one will notice or acknowledge your existence, or speak great place to live.,
Note I live in the area and was sucked in by all the hype / lies from real estate agents (safe, clean etc) and made the mistake of buying here.
Totally Agree, all the other positive reviews must be done by either Real estate agenst or Property Investors looking to Hype up the area
