Chatswood

"A great place to live"

Have lived in UK, Hong Kong for 15 years and Chatswood. Chatswood is a great cosmopolitan place. It has apartments around the pacific highway and railway station, and a surprisingly big range of houses in quiet and leafy streets off the Victoria avenue area. Some of the houses are very very good (modernised federation and Californian styles from the early 1900's) and and there are still some (relatively) lower priced smaller houses around. Artamon, Roseville and chatswood west are other options that seemed (when we were looking) to have more houses which were close by but a little cheaper (can be v. Hilly) but you will likely miss out on a large part of the convenience of being in close walkinging distance (mostly an easy level walk) shops and transport. It has a relaxed and comfortable feeling, but with a wide range of good shopping and restraunts including a range that are open late in the evening (try out the evening buffet at bulgogi in Victoria ave near the station). There a good schools and very short short train rides to the city and north Sydney. Driving a short distance on good road links gets you into the city and beaches. Everyone is different, but having come from living in relatively busy cities, don't underestimate the felling of areas being dead / isolation or the bad (on occasion horrendous) traffic if you live further out. It's a great mix of residential environment and city living. Hope this review helps.
