Sandy Beach

"A lovely, family friendly beachside suburb great for young families."

It is usually a quiet village style suburb with a mixture of young and maturing families along with a dose of retirees. Excellent area for raising up to primary aged children, however not enough variety for teenagers who are not into the beach lifestyle, however its only a short drive to sporting facilities in Woolgoolga (5 mins) and Coffs Harbour (20 mins). Fast and reliable internet access and its possible to run home businesses requiring technology from here. The local primary school has a great reputation and there are several very good child-care centres. The beach is one of the safest around as long as you are careful - this is the Pacific Ocean we're talking about after all. Fishing and surfing is also good. There is only one corner store but it does cover essentials, nice take-away food and great coffee. A decent shopping centre is within a 15 to 20 min drive from here and smaller independent ones are in Woolgoolga.
The main street down the middle sometimes has problems with bored teens on weekends, limited to mailbox damage from what I understand and beach parties can be noisy at times, no worse than most other beachside suburbs though. Public transport is limited, but there is good coverage to get kids to the local schools.
Housing is probably among the cheapest you'll find within walking distance to beaches on the east coast even though it has been climbing slowly over the last few years. $300K or less will get you in a comfortable three bedder as at mid 2011.
Overall, a nice place to live.
