Moura

"The Heart of the Dawson Valley"

Moura is located in Banana Shire 586 km north-west of Brisbane via the Burnett and Bruce Highways. It's a small town servicing the surrounding rural and coal mining interests. Named the Heart of the Dawson Valley', this thriving community is known for its coal mining, cotton processing, wheat and sorghum growing and chemical manufacture. This mixture of activities has ensured that, unlike most coal mining centres in Queensland, the town has not developed as a typical company town for miners.

The air is clean and fresh, apart from the occasional whiff from a passing cattle transport. Get out of the street lights and the sky at night is actually black. Those little bright sparkling dots in the sky are called stars. You see the occasional one in the city, but we have a lot more of them here in Moura, and in the winter, the Milky Way spreads like spilled milk from one corner of the sky to the other.

To go anywhere in Moura takes about 2 minutes. If you're feeling really energetic, you can even run around the perimeter of town in 30 minutes. The only problem is there's nothing to do, except maybe to catch a barramundi on the Dawson river, go for a swim in our Olympic pool, enjoy a cappuccino or a delicious country baked meal; take a walk along our many paved footpaths in town without the fear of being mugged. Go boating on the local Dawson River, where you can enjoy the tranquility, the local birds and wildlife and the fact that your blood pressure is beginning to return to normal. The locals you meet in the shops have nothing to do either, except to be friendly to visitors.

"Rural Living Magnific!"

What a beautiful way to spend the afternoon, on the balcony watching the sun go down over the picturesque rolling hills and a glass of bubbly. I loved staying at Munduberra at this farm stay with horses, cows, chickens, dogs the lot. We walked over to the next door neighbours were my family used to live to say hello and stop in for a chat. The piggery was being prepared to be used again, the dams were all plentiful and the dogs luv to swim in them. Driving around the property although it was hot in summer, sitting on that balcony you get this huge breeze up there. Vege patch was looking awesome & you chose to do something on the farm or nothing at all. Beautiful! Thanks for having me Mundubbera.
