Viewbank

"Funny Suburb"

Schools and childcare options are very good, location (distance form city) for price is also very good I think... Poor public transport options and little to no business around (i.e. no restaurants) and TERRIBLE internet options (no optus cable, no telstra cable and as it is so far away from Heidelberg Exchange either no ADSL or very poor quality ADSL)... No Telstra Cable also means no Foxtel unless you get satelite, the problem there is with the poor broadband options you cannot use IPTV either so little option other than regular free to air TV..

Parks are very good around the area, though I am not sure what will happen when/if the freeway does go through as is planned.

Not great for

  • Poor transport
  • Very Poor Internet Access

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees

Hi Joele

I have to agree with comments from 'Family Man' we have had Telstra internet cable and Foxtel via cable in Viebank for many years.

Depends where you are in Viewbank, you are right some people have Telstra cable, but some do not.. If you do not you are left with woeful ADSL2+ due to the suburb being on average 5km from the exchange in Heidelberg (4.5km is generally considered the limit for reliable ADSL2+), if you do have cable in your street then you are lucky in that respect but unlucky that there is zero competition for broadband in Viewbank...

Some people prefer there also being ADSL2+ as most places around Greater Melbourne have as you have much better competition on ADSL2+ (there is none on cable) so better service, pricing the option for IPTV services (also gives foxtel alternative) such as fetchtv from iinet or internode or TPGs IPTV services.. You will find the ADSL2+ IPTV services are going to grow dramatically in the next few years and Viewbank will miss out.. Even if you can get ADSL2+ which I have now managed to get the line sync speed is well on the slow end so none of those additional services are available to us.

I am just trying to give an honest review and mention things that for SOME people may be important, for others they may not... Hopefully if the Libs don't cancel it we will ave the NBN in the next 6 years or so across all of Melbourne giving everyone the same level of broadband service and far more competition..
