Hamilton Road

"Very Noisy at night, too much traiffic"

I live on the corner of Hamilton road and Gympie road in Focus arpartments and the noise levels are terrible. There is no reprieve at night either as there are dual link trucks running through all night that are working on the kedron link road and the road is uneven which makes the empty trailers bounce in transit. There is also a road cleaning machine that the Westfield maintenance team use from 1am to 4am most mornings, this machine makes a similar sound as a hoover which is high pitched. A complaint has been made but as yet they have not done anything about it.
Friday and Saturday nights are the noisiest nights as you may expect, with locals shouting abuse and pushing shopping trolleys into Hamilton road, the bus station seems to be a focal point for drunken people that come out of Gilhooleys and its not uncommon to witness domestic drunken violence from passing couples. Luckily the Police know this area to be a magnet for youth crime and drunken passers by and regularily drive through.
On a good note there is local transport available to the city and other suburbs, a good shopping centre, nice new library and an RSL.
I would steer clear of the main Hamilton road and Gympie road as these are far to noisey and maybe go at least one or two streets back.

Great for

  • Shopping
  • RSL
  • Library

Not great for

  • Extremely Noisy both day and night
  • Very Busy roads
  • Drunks passing though at night

Agree on your comment about living one or two streets back. Sorry to here you're experiencing the issues living on the corner of Hamilton and Gympie roads. The council have a lot to answer for. I'm lucky to live in Miller Street, 500m from Westfield Chermside heading east, and one street back from Hamilton Road. It's VERY quiet here, sometimes too quiet (you could hear a pin drop) lol Very peaceful here too considering the proximity to the bus station and Gilhooleys.

If you're a tenant and like the area I'd suggest trying to find a unit between Miller Street and Westfield Chermside or Chermside pool, for some peace and quiet and respite from the drunkards. All the best.

Were you on a bottom floor apartment? I inspected a top floor apartment at Focus and it was very quiet ones the doors and windows were shut. I only ask I was very interested in the property, but I have mixed feelings about the drunken behavior around the busstops.

Its not the suburb. I live on Hamilton road and I dont notice the noise anymore. Its a choice for me. I could move to Albany Creek and have silence, but too far. We live out the back. No one even comes to our front door. I love our lifestyle and neighbourhood. I just think living close to any pubs is a bad idea. Same with New Farm. Where I have lived also.
