"Nice family orientated, quiet street"

Sherriff street offers a family orientated environment in the leafy area of Hermit Park, 5 minutes from Townsville CBD. It has a 'no through road' at the far end (where it joins Flinders Hwy) which limits the traffic to local traffic only making it "very quiet". Perfect for the kids on their pushbikes.
The nearby Mater private Hospital has an excellent maternity ward and numerous doctors offices surrounding the hospital.
Queens road (three blocks away) offers nearly any food type/restaurant you could want and a large array of shops/shopping centres.

Scotland Island

"Absolute best suburb in the world - I bet it doesnt score that though..."

This is community living, a stones throw from Sydney.

I was born in this suburb and have a hesitance to let everyone know of its existence.

It has: Boat only access, small town mentality, no commercial shops (at all), no mobile reception, dirt roads, bugs (highest concentration of funnel web spiders in the world), no facilities at all, tank water supply and septic systems only. Not to mention having to carry all of your shopping up to your house all the time (generally through pouring rain).

That is what is so good about this suburb.

If your child skins his/her ankle riding their pushbike, a neighbor will walk them to your door.

If your boat is sinking because you haven't bailed it out during the last two days rains, your neighbor will probably have done it for you.

Just make sure you look after your neighbor :)

Are there certain areas of the island where funnel webs are common and are there ways to avoid them?

Moodies

Ive lived on the island for 9 years and never seen one!

Hi Moodies. Your point is accurate (ie. you don't realy need to worry about them). There are bucketloads of them though. You just need to do some digging. Ask any of the tradies working around the island. The Kookaburras will sit in the branches waiting for them to appear each mattock/spade stroke. Up the top of the island has more than the rest, you'll notice the holes on the ground as you walk around. I've had them in the laundry a few times and my dad had one in his undies once (true story!). I've only ever seen one person get bitten though and that was in Manly (not the island).

Goonellabah

"Above it all - Goonellabah"

Goonellabah. The raised ellevation above Lismore makes a big difference in temperature during summer and winter, resulting in much more stable temperatures throughout the year.
Excellent University and regional hospital nearby.
Great views from all northern facing areas, decent shopping facilities and best of all... no floods.

"Riverside Ridge Building zone... May get a little better in a few years."

Lots of dramas with the developers here.

http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2009/05/15/53615_news.html

We lived here for just under two years, unfortunately in one of the first houses in this estate. With this comes lots of noise... trucks, constant rubbish and noise, thieves wanting building supplies, snakes inside the house (on three separate occasions), flooding in the cul de sac, no trees there yet (to speak of)... Anyway you get the picture.

Telstra have installed the new 'Smart Estate' fibre optic communication lines here, making for very! quick broadband. Only problem is... you can't go with any other provider.

Local established Riverside parts of Douglas seem quite nice. The Riverside tavern is excellent, great food, entertainment etc...

Overall, should get better with age.
