"Quiet and friendly"
Nice little town growing fast since the bypass opened. Lots of new faces and a charming mix of old and new buildings. Lots of parks and playgrounds but nothing for young adults, especially teens and singles. If you want to open a business consider something for the young adults - they desperately need it and should make you rich. Warning -there is NO employment for anyone unless you are self employed, or a relative or friend of someone already in business - locals will choose their mates over you just to keep them employed. Same is true in Warragul. V-Line is not bad but trains between 6-8am are usually packed, we need more carriages. Better to drive to Pakenham and catch the Metro as it's the end of the line and you're sure to get a seat. Bypass is great, you can make it to Dandenong in an hour. Retail shopping should improve when the new centre is built in Pakenham (20 minutes drive). Great quality meat, eggs, fruit and veg can be bought from independents (the 2 supermarkets have a wide range of everything else). Housing still affordable for new homes. Medical services great but you need to get on to a doctor's patient list as they are all very busy. Nightlife is the pits - anyone want to open a good restaurant-nightclub-venue? Fooderies average but Drouin is close to some beautiful wineries, tapas and pizza venues.

Drouin has the best of everything as far as location goes. We are only an hour from everything life has to offer. Growing up outside of the city an hour in the car is nothing and may take a little to get use to if you move from the suburbs, although you could spend that time in traffic for a short drive at times! Beautiful beaches, the snow fields, great camping in the bush and all the city has to offer is all within the hour. I fly frequently and can be at Tullamarine in 1 hour 15 outside of peak hour. The town does have things to offer for young kids growing up you just have to get involved in clubs and community groups. Sport and out door activities have long been a big part of this area, hence our long list of sporting greats from the area. There are new estates going up everywhere, along with new facilities . My only concern is that the council and State government cant be behind the eight ball with allowing the growth of infrastructure to support the influx of people these bring. Eg Our kindergartens, schools, public transport and hospital have to grow also. The school choices are excellent in the area with buses servicing all outside areas. Land and housing is still affordable but for how long is any ones guess. There is a huge sense of community and most people care about where they live and for the people who live in it. If you are looking for that special place to raise your children in a community that cares, but with the convience of everything only an hour away then come and have a look at Drouin and its surrounding areas.
