Eighth Street

"Eighth Street Gawler"

A lovely quiet area, with treets both sides of the road, giving it a nice shaded look, though when its drops its berries it can be untidy till the council sweeper comes along. Road is very quiet and hardly used as its a terminating road. Its situated just behind the main road, and has a lovely footpath and bridge access to the main shopping areas which take about 5 mins to walk to. Mitre 10 is just behind this street for all you handymen out there. At nights a couple of possums are out and about, but ambiance wise its very quiet for a street in the heart of a busy town. Access to the street is limited so you will unlikely get any traffic other than local.
Council rates arent too bad, the area growth is good, I would stay away from the areas towards the end within 2 or so houses as they CAN be in the flood zone and the water gets pretty close. thats if it ever occurs again, (nothing insurance cant fix im sure if your covered) which by rights it should not as the council were supposed to take preventative measures after last time. Occured twice when i was there ..about 10 year gaps ~ Its a glorious sight to see though when the entire park at the end is under water and the water is as high as the bridge.
House blocks are generous in size, not too large, not too small, everyone generally keeps a tidy garden making the area pleasing to look at. Further down the street are self contained unit complex with lockup gates, and a lovely 2 story complex of town houses.
Doctor surgeries/Chemist are a 5 min away perfect for the elderly.

Brimsdown Road

"Brimsdown Road"

This street is made up mostly of owner occupied stand alone housing, the streets surrounding it, Melbury Yambrook etc are Mostly semi detached housing trust homes. The area is pretty quiet, our neighbours are very friendly. The road condiion is good as is the drainage, all bar the pot holes on bulkington road. But the water doesnt linger on the road as its curved bitumen.
We have the occasional hoon from melbury street, and tolledown tear through.
Though many of these housing trust homes are being renovated by the government as part of the playford alive program.
Facilties on this road are fine, we have access to ADSL2+, and power/gas/electricity supply is fine.
Problem with the area surrounding is i swear nobody owns a lawnmower!
At night the area is quiet, very few animals other than native birds. Occasionally you will have an air force plane fly overhead but they are a few thousand feet + up and we are not directly in their approach path so they tend to remain up there.
There are the occasional wanderers at night time, generally walking home from the hotel, but keep to themselves, I have never had any issues.
We are supplied with large recycling bins, and medium sized garbage collection bins. Green Garden waste bins are available for about $50 a year.
Pest wise, we havent seen a mouse rat or cockroach the entire time we have lived here, however there is plenty of ants outside.
Road is right next to a nice park that is commonly used for cricket and soccer. It is comfortably between elizabeth and munno para shopping centers.
There is a petrol station just around the corner, an IGA postoffice and childcare center as well as schools, all of which are about to be done up.

Davoren Park

"An Affordable Neighbourhood for All"

Davoren Park is an upcoming gem, its close to the city with all the facilities and access to transport if needed. The area is currently being upgraded with new medical facilities, petrol stations, new schools and shops, The Parks are being upgraded and pumped naturally collected storm water to keep them green. A large wetland is just opening up, which will make a great family area, besides the mosquitoes im sure it may attract.

Many housing trust home areas are currently being refurbished, the roads are being resealed.

It's a low traffic area as a lot of people tend to use the bus/ train lines. The resale value is great, though may not be a massive amount the percentage of increase is excellent ! 10% +
I would recommend this area as an up and coming with a lot of potential. There is a plethora of retail shopping centers, both munno para and elizabeth not 5 mins away extremely convenient. Look up playford alive and see what massive upgrades are currently being established.
Facilities such as ADSL2+ are available, mobile reception is perfect.
Water Gas and Electricity Supply is great, no outages or problems
Eating out in Davoren Park itself is reasonably limited to fish and chip/ Pizza bars, Bowling alley/cafe. Though not 5 mins drive you have access to all the large fast food chains, and a few quaint little restaurants and cinemas. As far as nightlife there is a nice hotel, and few others in the surrounding area. But for all you clubbing types, find an area thats outside of the CBD that has that kind of facilities.

Problems with the suburb are the lower income areas filled with housing trust homes, not to stereotype all housing trust tenants but many do not care for the homes they are given, so there are some streets out of a 3rd world, hopefully these are removed and redone during the playford alive initiative. Obviously being an area with a proportion of housing trust homes, it can have it social problems depending on the tenants. Like all areas its not free from hoon drivers. But area is well policed and they are more than helpful.
During the summer the area can look very dry and barren, because of water restrictions lawn curbsides are not watered, come winter the area can be as green as green.
Rubish content is reasonably low, as the council always have someone out cleaning, mowing, trying to keep the areas tidy.

At nights the area is reasonably quiet, very few dogs in my area, once again occasionally you hear a hoon off in the distance. To note though its quite close to the airforce base, so you will get planes coming in and out during the day, but after a while you will hardly notice it.

Our Neighbors are friendly and quiet, the type who will bring in your bin for you if you area away.

I have lived in hillbank, Salisbury North, Port norlunga South, Elizabeth East, Elizabeth North, Elizabeth Park, Smithfield and now Davoren Park. Seems like a downgrade BUT the part of davoren Park that I live in now is the cleanest most quiet street I have EVER lived in. Since I've lived here I've not seen a cop car, a feral, a drug dealer or anything that is negative ON MY STREET. I hope people realize that you cannot place negativity upon a whole suburb. It actually comes down to the actual street. I am sick and tried of people who base their rating on a whole suburb because they had a bad experience in a certain house, on a certain street. There is zero crime in the part of davoren Park I live in. Some people are just lucky or unlucky.

But you still have to leave your street!
