Fuller Street

"Edwardstown - 90 Home Scheme in the 1920s"

Fuller Street was part of the 90 Home scheme which as put up for tender around 1926 and also included the surrounding Wright Street and Johnson Street running parallel with Fuller Street and Inglis and stanton streets cutting across them. The subdivison was located on 23 acres of fertile farm land and was based on the similar schemes going on in Colonel Light Gardens and other developments in the early 1920s.
A choice of brick, stone, reinforced concrete, or other suitable material were offered to the tenderers, and any of the 12 house designs may have been chosen from. This small pocket of housing in Edwardstown is very similar to developments on the other side of South Road towards Colonel Light Gardens. Some properties have been lost over time and newer homes from he 1950s-recent have been built but not many in the area of Wright, Johnson, Fuller, Stanton and Inglis streets. These streets still retain most of the original mid 1920s housing, similar to its more expensive neighbours.

Broadview

"Great suburb which is going through many changes."

My house has been in the family since just after the end of World War 2. Built in 1950 the house is still standing and is in good condition. There are still original neighbours from the 1950s in my block of houses. The neighbours are very friendly. There is a change from the old Broadview to a more multicultural Broadview. This is a great thing with the new selection of cultural places to go to eat out or get take away. Traffic can be a problem with the surrounding of Main North Road, Hampstead Road, Regency Road and North East Road. Many of the old war services houses and maisonettes are disappearing and new courtyard homes are popping up in their place. I personally think the are is moving from a large rental area into a family owned area.
