Hopetoun Park

"Easily accessible with country atmosphere."

There is a real sense of community here. Even though having bigger blocks means we are technically further from our neighbours than most estates, the open style fencing has meant that we talk to our neighbours more than we ever did living in other areas. There are always people out walking their dog, riding with their kids, exercising or gardening and everyone says 'Hello'. It's beautiful. Not only are the natural views are breathtaking but most home owners here take real pride in their homes and gardens. I think that the best way to describe it is to say that the sky just seems bigger. Seem odd to say but, sit outside here one night (as a lot of residents do) and you'd be able to understand what I am trying to express. Best move that we ever made.............. happy to say that this is our 'forever home.'

Great for

  • Easy free way access
  • Great community atmosphere

Not great for

  • Public transport
  • High maintenance property

Bacchus Marsh

"An accessible 'country town'"

Bacchus Marsh still has a country feel about it despite being so accessible to the CBD by freeway (and Geelong), though I rarely want to leave. People are friendly and the shop owners & assistants are genuine and know your name. I've been impressed by Bacchus Marsh Primary School since our first tour and it hasn't failed to keep me impressed. My daughter is thriving. We need more retailers to fill up a few blank spaces in the centre ( and the centre needs a bit of a reno) and the main street but the retailers we do have are proffessional and helpful and I'm seeing improvements to the overall look all the time. There are quite a few eating places. My favourites are Indian, The local pubs and Baby Black for a good cuppa and great atmosphere and they're all walking distance to eachother. :) There's not too much traffic and it's beautiful and quiet. I love to breath in the fresh air and wish we had moved here sooner. :)

Great for

  • Affordable NICE housing
  • Beautiful surroundings
  • Avenue of honour

Not great for

  • Some people need to step out of the 50's
  • The roads are very busy around school start and finish times

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
  • Tourists

The retail has definitely improved with the new centre opening and a few other new retailers on main st and surrounds. Also, I love our 'new' library. The traffic however can now get horrendous..... a problem that isn't being addressed fast enough!

The traffic is awful in this town, it takes me 30 minutes to drive my boys to school each morning because of the traffic and we live in the town. People are forever honking their horns each morning and afternoon trying to battle through the awful traffic, and guess what? They are ruining the town by building a crap full of houses in every bit of land they can find! Forget this town being quiet, forget the country scene, we have sold and are happily moving out unfortunately!

Truth07 may I ask where you would be moving out to area wise? I'm looking at moving to bacchus marsh from the suburb of Caroline springs, crime is high here!

My first property was in Caroline Springs! :) We live in Hopetoun Park and I can't imagine ever leaving. Bacchus Marsh has a few different styles of living so 'do your homework'. Hopetoun Park, Long Forest etc. can be high maintenance so aren't suitable if you're not that way inclined but WELL WORTH IT, if you're 'home passionate'. Traffic can be an 'arse' but it's NOTHING compared to Caroline Springs/ Taylor's Lakes. Haha

Don't come to BM...It is horrible. Crap small houses with no supporting infrastructure. It is becoming a dump
