Truganina

"Dismal!! Moved out after one year."

We lived along parkland off Sayers Rd. on Bridgewater Way. It was a nightmare!! There were hoons riding their extremely loud dirt bikes up and down the paths all hours of the night. Police did nothing to assist. Also lots of hoons in cars. Our immediate neighbours were nice, but there was no real community spirit - most people kept to themselves. Internet was a total waste. Many areas were too far from the exchange. We were on the outer rim and our internet was so slow - I couldn't even Skype with my family.

The traffic was an ABSOLUTE nightmare. Forsyth road and Sayers road - FORGET ABOUT IT. I used to take my daughter to care in Point Cook at 8:30am - it would literally take me 30 minutes to go the 1.5kms down Forsyth road in the morning. Without traffic, it took about 7 minutes to get over to Point Cook. With the traffic, about 45 minutes!!! We couldn't find decent childcare in the Tarneit/Truganina area so had to go across the highway to Point Cook for our shopping and childcare and ultimately ended up moving to Point Cook.

Infrastructure, schools, daycares, roads, shopping centres - all overcrowded and poorly planned. I wouldn't recommend this suburb to anyone I cared about.

Great for

  • None come to mind.

Not great for

  • Very Noisy
  • No sense of Community
  • Low Socioeconomic area
  • Not enough cafes and boutiques and bars
  • Traffic Nightmare

Point Cook

"Some great stuff and some not so great stuff..."

We love Point Cook for the reasons that it is close to the city, it has a wonderful community spirit and it's very family friendly. Everything you need is close by with shops, doctors, etc. It can be noisy with dogs barking, kids screaming, teenage hoons, etc. We have lived in Alamanda and Off of Boardwalk Blvd on Miles Franklin - both had noise and hoons. Stay away from houses near parks - teens often hang out there after dark and make a lot of unwanted noise.

We have many friends and acquaintances who had their homes and cars broken into, vandalised, etc. Crime rates seem to be rising as of late. Internet is hit or miss depending on the area you live in. Saltwater Coast is really dodgy for internet, Alamanda is all Fibre Optic, the non-estate, older areas of Point Cook are really unreliable whether you can get access or not, as is Sanctuary Lakes. Always ask the current owners/tenants about internet if it is important to you.

We love Point Cook because of the community spirit and it's closeness to everything and my hubby's work. Plus we have made lots of friends here. It is a hugely multi-cultural suburb made up of expats from many, many nations. On our one street we had Aussies, Americans, British, South Africans,Germans, Italians, Greeks, Indians, Koreans, Chinese, Dutch, French… we love it! It brings such a colourful, diverse cross section of people into one area and makes life interesting and fun.

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Families with kids

Hi,

You mentioned "Crime rates are going up considerably as of late - unfortunately". However, crime rates actually declined in 2011/13. Statewide, the 2012/13 crime rate per 100,000 population was 7157.1, an increase of 1.6% compared with 2011/12. However in Wyndham (the local govt area for point cook) the 2012/13 crime rate per 100,000 population was 6,741, and decreased by nearly 10% compared with 2011/12. http://wsmmelbourne.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/post-code-3030-takes-out-top-crim-spot.html - This also says that it's quoting Victoria Police statistics. I personally know 4 people in Point Cook who have had their homes broken into (one house was broken into TWICE!) & 6 others who had their cars broken into or vandalised - all in the last year. I have personally had my car vandalised, I had two of my tyres ruined by someone wedging glass bottles under my rear tyres whilst I was at the Chemist Warehouse off Boardwalk Blvd. Considering that I only know around 30 people in Point Cook, I would say those are some pretty scary numbers. There is crime everywhere of course, but I have heard of more crime living in Point Cook than I have anywhere else I've lived in Australia, that is just my experience. I am no expert and do not claim to be. I am merely stating my personal experience and knowledge gathered from statistics.

I just changed the address on my car insurance from Hampton, and the premium went DOWN! must be fairly safe.

On that same token, we moved from Geelong to Point Cook and our premiums went UP by $400/year! We hear so much about the crime and suspicious activity from friends and also on the Facebook PC Residents page. There were at least 3 suspected pedophile incidents in the area within 6 months - One was at Saltwater Coast where a school girl waiting for a bus and was chased down the road by one or two men, one where a man at the end of our street in Alamanda on Magnetic Ave tried to get our little boy neighbour into his car when he was walking to school and another on Jamieson way where there was a white sedan following behind kids who were walking to school on several occasions. Like I said - I did not post this to engage in an argument with people, I am stating my experiences and those of others that I KNOW personally of.

We may hear more about incidents having a stronger connection to the community, Facebook/social media & kids in school, whereas in other communities, we don't hear as much of the stuff that goes on if you're not socially connected.
