Hoppers Crossing

"A very underrated western suburb"

Please note that is a review for the whole of Wyndham (Hoppers,Werribee,Tarneit,Truganina)

For years, the western suburbs have been looked down upon as the sewerage suburb of Melbourne and I just cannot understand why. This is absolutely ridiculous and if that stopped you from investing, then you've lost out on a gold mine of a market. I bought my property in 2009 for 230,000 and it is now worth 350 plus (3 brm, 600 square metres). That's 65% in 2.5 years.

To all those with false notions, the western suburbs are one of the fastest growing in Melbourne simply because no other place is affordable (Forget entering the property market in the east or south and do you really want to be in 'middle east' north?I have lived up north so I am not being racist). I have been living here for 2.5 years and have noticed so much change in such a short span of time.
I'll give you a rundown on what to expect here and I have experienced all of the below personally:

1) Werribee south beach is infamous for being a pet friendly beach. It also has one the best boat launching ramps in Melbourne.
2) You have the Werribee Mansion and the Open Range Zoo.The mansion is great for a stroll over the weekend and the open range zoo is the only one of it's kind in Victoria (or probably even Australia)
3) The You Yangs and the Brisbane Ranges are a 15 minute drive away.Amazing for bush walks and push bike rides. Some really good wineries on the way too where you can stop over for lunch.
4) Avalon airport is 20 minutes away though only Jetstar operate from there.Avalon,I believe will become a major airport one day to address the traffic issues which Tullamarine will create.
5) Geelong is 30 minutes away and the City is 30 minutes.Wyndham is equi-distant to both.Apollo Bay is a much shorter drive from Wyndham.
6) Tarneit offers great shopping options better than Werribee Plaza. It is well planned and shops are partitioned in sections rather than having all shops under one roof.
7) The Werribee River is one the best places you can go to for a walk or push bike ride. There are BBQs and a dedicated push bike path which is brilliant. It connects all the way to Geelong.A beautiful place for a picnic or romantic getaway. You can pick your own private spot.
8) A new train station is on the way which connects Tarneit to the CBD.The Geelong V/line will travel via this in the future.
9) Watton Street is a very good place for eating out. It's quite hip and happening. The Werribee theatre is also on Watton.

Cons of living here.

1) Hoons are a problem but if a complaint is made to the council, they take action within 24 hours (very impressive)
2) Schools are average but which school is if it isn't a Catholic one?
3) Lot of smokers and obese people around (surprising for a place with so many outdoor activity options)

All in all a very underrated suburb. If you're going to live here,be sure to get out and about. You're really not going to like it if you sit around at home.

Hi, I really think your post is valuable as it provides so much information on the area. Unfortunately it is only visible when looking under "hoppers crossing" reviews. Would you mind posting it for tarneit and werribee also? Cheers
