Mount Beauty

"Quite isolated"

Mt Beauty went through a property boom during the covid lockdowns, many of the residents have sold their houses and gone.
One of the best thing that Mt Beauty has going for it, the pondage, has seen its beautiful trees cut down. It used to be a cool haven and a lovely place to walk, now it is unbearably hot in Summer.
Alongside cutting down the trees, the Council has seen fit to sell of the community pool. Also, the businesses are moving to Towonga. The police station operates in a limited capacicy.
Finally, it is not a place for those who do not have cars, as public transport is extremely limited here.

Glebe

"It's heyday is long gone"

I've lived in Glebe since 1980, then it was populated with students, gay and lesbian people, creative people, working class, and the largest First Nations community in Sydney outside Redfern. The cafes and restaurants had cheap, flavourful food and there was a lot less traffic and congestion. Suburbs transform, and now all it's got going for it is its proximity to Newtown and the CBD. It's cafes and restaurants are overpriced, its streets are congested, the people are mostly boring upper middle class professionals and their offspring who love to delude themselves about the Glebe community spirit which hasn't existed for decades.
