Melton South

"Id rather swallow razor blades"

I grew up here. I felt like I was living in the terrible end of a terrible suburb ... my only saviour was the fact that the train station was in Melton South so that I could get out. My family still live there and they are fine with it. I personally like to live my life doing things. The school I attend there was shocking. If material things mean a lot to you then yes, by all means go there. You'll get a big house on a big block for little money. In my opinion ... you get what you pay for. I'd sooner live in the Bronx ... at least there would be stuff to do there.

Templestowe Lower

"Nice but not exciting"

I came to Templestowe Lower In 2004 because my now husband owned a house in the neighbourhood. We still live here and I believe this area is good for somethings but not others. On the positive side it is leafy and full of wildlife. It's great for walks (exercise and pleasure) and is a short walk away from creeks and the Yarra river. It is also close to basic shops and a short trip away from Shopping Town. On the negative side ... there isn't much else to do. The public transport is so poor that trying to get anywhere other than the CBD isn't worth the hassle. To get to my workplace in South Yarra, the most efficient way to get there was by bus and two trains. The demographic seems to be older couples with kids in their teens or twenties so there is a bit of 'hoonage'. As a former inner city dweller I find it all a bit dull but it is probably good for those with family and friends in the area, who have access to a car and don't mind sleepy restaurants. There is nothing in the way of a decent pub or bar to relax in. But if you are the type of person happy to do the whole 'family' thing then I guess it's nice. I wouldn't say that it is the cheapest area but is more reasonable than some of the neighbouring suburbs.

Hi Pauri,

I think your review is actually spot on. The Templestowe area is fantastic for a certain demographic, and not for others. I used to live there, and now I'm in Port Melbourne, and if I did the reverse, I probably wouldn't love Templestowe as much as I still do.

Great for young families, great big blocks, great for walking and 'nature.

Bad for getting places, and no great pubs clubs or bars.

AJ I think you have become a Port Melbourne snob :)

hehehehehe...no DArgy, just have a different point of view now :)

I don't have a family yet, so Port Melbourne is really nice for me. Close to my friends, very close to the beach and lots of great bars and clubs around.

I have no doubt that when I want to raise a family, I'll be right back at Templestowe where there are large blocks of land :)

Well you better hurry up cos those large blocks of land are getting smaller....
Single life in Port Melbourne , bars , beach & clubs .... Hmmm I think I may be a little envious .... You're still a snob though. ... But a nice one ......we might accept you back in Templestowe one day :)
