Greenslopes

"Love Greenslopes"

My grandmother lives here and I have many fond memories of Greenslopes. This is a great suburb - has the best private hospital in Qld, okay range of shops and so close to the city. My grandmother loves it here as she feels safe, has a good range of local shops and has many elderly friends here (are many old people here). Only problem is the zippy pathology cars that fly along the streets to and from the hospital. Also, if you live near the hospital, your street will be full of cars.

Great for

  • Lovely neighbourhood feel
  • Proximity to city
  • Proximity to major shops, hospitals...
  • Public transport / busway

Not great for

  • Hospital staff and visitors park everywhere

Mount Ommaney

"Best suburb in Brisbane"

I am loving living here. We bought the house of our dreams up on a hill and love the neighbourhood because everyone is so friendly, have beautiful gardens and take good care of their houses. I like living somewhere where your neighbours greet you every time they see you.

Mt Ommaney has a fantastic shopping centre, a good choice of restaurants, and close to good schools. The shopping centre could use a cimema though. That is my only gripe about the shopping centre.

Mt Ommaney has plenty to offer but if you do decide to go to the city, it's only a short drive or bus trip away.

Not great for

  • Lots of traffic around the shopping centre

Forest Lake

"Only lived here for a year, that was enough."

We rented a house in Forest Lake for a year with our small children to see if we liked it enough to buy here.

Firstly, the real estate agents need to work on their customer service skills.

Secondly, we found we were always traveling away to go out for dinner and to go shopping.

Thirdly, we couldn't find a decent house with a big back yard. Most of the houses have tiny yards which is no good for small children.

Lastly, our house got broken into once and there were also two attempted break-ins in the early evenings when we were at home. I got the creeps living here. I googled break-ins in Forest Lake and wish I had done this earlier as they are very high. We now live in Mt Ommaney and love it.

Great for

  • Lots of trees, parks, bike tracks and places to eat

Not great for

  • So far away from civilisation
  • Break and Enters
  • Houses too close together

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees

Lived here for 7 years while at uni and during the early years of my career. Loved living here because is so close to the city via bus, train or car.

The suburb has a great atmosphere, very friendly neighbours. Theres not too many restaurants but some are tucked away. The closest shopping centre is at Fairfield and its fine for grocery hopping.

Great for

  • Good choice of public transport

Not great for

  • Some parts flood
  • Trains can be a bit noisy
