Zillmere

"Its Ok !!"

I moved to brisbane from the UK and originally chose Zillmere due to the good rental prices and transport links, as well as being very close to Chermside shopping centre and various shopping locations.

Alot of the area is being developed into new units/townhouses and there is a increase of young working couple, like my partner and I, moving to the area and commuting into the city.

However my one flaw with Zillmere is I do not feel safe walking around at night. I admit it isn't all the time, mostly friday nights, there are large gangs of 'kids' hanging around the station and 7/11. I know of people who have been hassled and quite frightened by these people. It personally makes me feel frightened and I hate being confronted with a group people like that. I then have to walk a good 15 minutes home and I personally do not feel safe.

It really is a shame as Zillmere has some fantastic potential and if I didnt feel so unsafe I would not move, but it comes down to me walking my dog twice a day and walking to and from the station daily for work, and I just need to feel a little more safe when doing this.

If however you dont walk, or are a car user, I dont think that some of my issues would effect you.

Great for

  • Close to everything.
  • Good value for money
  • Multiple travel options and routes to city

Not great for

  • Still some housing commission homes in area.
  • Not the safest place: lock your doors, windows and cars.
