Franklin

"Growth Suburb in a growth area"

Franklin is the southern most suburb in the Gungahlin area of Canberra. It is a new suburb that has only existed since 2007. The suburb is half parkland and half residential with the streets designed to minimise through traffic. The majority of people buying into the suburb are families with small children, upgraders and some retirees. Most are professionals or semi-professional with a high proportion having a tertiary education. There is a good level of public transport with bus routes going through the suburb and an easy walk to the express bus stop on Flemmington Road. The suburb is mostly flat rising upwards towards the Gungahlin town centre. There is easy access to three major roads and with an extension to Well Station Road to the south it is very easy to get on to the Federal Highway to Sydney. The other roads give easy and rapid access to the CBD, the airport and southern Canberra. The suburb already has fibre optic cable to every house (mandatory). The Gungahlin town centre is a 5 minute drive and has all the primary / essential shopping outlets needed. There are a growing number of cafes but only a few restaurants. There is no 'night life' to speak off. A new secondary college has opened up and a swimming centre is to be built in the near future. An ACT government department will be relocated to the Gungahlin area in the next 5 years and this will bring increased commercial opportunities to the town centre.
