Victoria St

"Nice restaurants in the west, and the Yarra in the east; otherwise bleak"

The restaurants along the western half of Victoria Street are interesting and great for Asian eating, and there's a couple of decent western pubs and cafes too. At the eastern end the street crosses the Yarra, allowing for nice cycling around the yarra bend park.

Parts of Victoria street seem seedy; I've seen more than a few homeless drunks either asleep on benches or being moved on.

However aside from that, the area is rather bleak; there are no real shops of note, and the Victoria Gardens shopping centre is as bland and devoid of interest as a shopping centre can be.

Watch out for the lack of inexpensive car parking in the area too - and traffic is only going to get worse as several new corporate buildings are being built in the area.

Very accurate review Wintermute -- especially about Victoria Gardens. I'm in the suburb nearly every day and have to visit VG a lot .. and it's definately bland :(

There's also some new development along the eastern side of the street, near the (famous Richmond icon) "Skipping Girl" .... so i'll be keeping a keen eye on that!

Holden St

"Expensive, but nice to live in if you like cycling and social life"

Overall a nice place to live - lots of funky vegetarian and vegan restaurants, good coffee shops, and excellent public transport, plus linear parks for cycling.

BTW, I selected options for Resale Value, Child Care, Schools and Pay TV above even though I have no clue about them in this area - however there wasn't any way to select "N/A" that I could find. Sorry!
